Essentially a souped up stud finder it helps find concealed pipe [pvc and metal] and electrical wiring. For anyone interested in "remodeling", tearing out walls, etc. something like this is a big help. A regular stud finder won't help finding pipe or electrical wire. I had to go to the $700 variety a Bosch D-Tect150 D-Tect Wallscanner, also available at amazon for $644 +Tax. I use a sheet of cardboard on the roof top to smooth out the rolling action, particularly with 30 year dimensional shingles. **Q: Will this find studs through exterior siding, stucco, or other exterior house coverings?** A: It couldn't find 2x rafters under 3/8" plywood and tar paper reliably, maybe 50/50. I didn't use it through shingles. I returned it. Maybe it had a hard time seeing wood under wood. **Q: Can this work through carpet and padding to get to floor joists? Trying to fix squeaks in floor.** A: It can detect floor joists through carpet but you have to use exactly the right pressure so it's very hit and miss. **Q: As a beekeeper i'm employed to remove bee colonies in walls ans roof top. Can this unit detect the location of the colony?** A: I doubt it would work for that but I'm not 100% sure. Personally I would utilize a thermal camera over this.
