In order to put things in proper perspective, I want to say I am a retired programming enthusiast, who never worked in a programming environment.I purchased five recently published JavaScript books, which I read in parallel. I also take care to work through all programming exercises before I proceed to the next chapter. I covered only about 25% of this book, as well as four others I use for my learning. This approach helps me decide which book explains a certain topic better.This book is different in describing JavaScript. Having examples presented in detail highly enhances my learning. It is true that those who already have a good knowledge of the subject find the repetition of code explanation superfluous, but I found it helpful. I think a great value to this book lies in the background of the author, who has been teaching live audiences for many years. This is in opposition to those who sit in their room and decide to write on a subject. Teaching students brings out questions that do not occur to an author who is removed from a teaching environment.I find this book one of the best covering the subject matter. When I read chapters in other JavaScript books, which are difficult to understand, I return to this book for clarity.It is true, as other reviewers stated, there are some deprecated forms in this book. However, all current browsers can handle them, and in time, the reader will also understand the updated usage.I give four stars to this book, and will follow up with a full review once I have finished all of it. In any case, I only expect my opinion to improve. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Understandable Javascript *by B***Y on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on February 11, 2011* At last, a Javascript book that is understandable for beginners. I have been looking for a while at various texts, even those titled for beginners, but nobody could really explain it to beginners in easy understandable English.That's what I enjoy about this book. Sure, there is plenty of jargon speak, but it makes sense the way it is explained and shown in examples. I've only started on a couple of chapters so far, but I am enjoying it.One thing I picked up was the out-dated html used in the examples. This is probably a carry-over from the first edition. If you're not worried about currency issues, they work fine. The book has all answers to all interview questions you may get.
