I dry fitted the connections and some of the joints needed a little filing; no big. I used wood glue then drilled pilot holes for the nails. It's a great way to learn about hives and hive construction, especially for a new person. With all the multiple pieces-parts in the kit, not a thing was missing (nothing more frustrating than missing a couple of parts, right?). I just painted them this weekend, which was almost a shame because the wood is gorgeous. Great quality as far as I can tell, especially for the price -- wow, the shipping alone should have cost what this entire kit costs... (don't tell them that). I bought a second 8 frame box later in the summer and added it. This summer my hive swarmed because it was overcrowded. I cannot tell you how many bees that it took for my hive to be overcrowded, but I can tell you that 2 x 8 framed boxes was probably ok to house a years worth of hive growth. However, each queen’s production rate varies, so you’ll need to monitor. The top box of this hive is for honey production. It comes with a queen excluder, so that the queen can’t lay eggs in the honey comb. My advice to you would be to find yourself a mentor to give you advice and run to your assistance when things go awry. I was lucky enough to find someone to help at a party, but I’m sure you can look online and find someone local. There are also great books about bee keeping available. You’ll need to study a bit to know when and what to feed them, how to insulate the hive in winter if necessary etc. I’m pretty hands off with my hive and it seems to do pretty well with minimal interference from me, but I definitely benefitted from have the advice of my mentor. Good luck with your hive and welcome to the bee keeping club! **Q: Are the bees included?** A: No you will have to get the bees on your own. **Q: Is this available with ten frsmes?** A: Frames?are the standard size as most hives. Get the 10 frame kit. Its more common and easier to get accessories for. Not sure if this seller makes a 10 frame but the quality of this kit was good for the relative cost. The dovetails were perfect on my hive, once I lined up the sides correctly they fit great. The brood/super frames would come apart under their own weight, so I added wood glue and will nail those together. The package did come with nails as of 04/2021. The directions aren't super detailed but I found them fine. (It was my first time putting one together.) I am happy overall with my hive.
