I'd buy them again
Love these little speakers! I work in a very loud machine shop, and could never hear my mp3 til now!

Excellent sound with sub-woofer output at a fair price.
Great speakers for the price.

These speakers are garbage. There's absolutely no crossovers built into the speakers ...
These speakers are garbage. There's absolutely no crossovers built into the speakers or tweeters to separate the frequencies as you'd expect in any bookshelf speaker built today. The 3" woofers are too stiff for these tiny boxes, making them severely inefficient speakers with harsh tweeter hiss when cranking them to a volume enough to get the woofers moving enough to create bass. The sound is not smooth. These are overpriced junk labeled as studio monitors that do not reproduce music accurately.

In fact all Alesis products are crap, I bought the Alesis Micron a few years ...
Absolute junk... I've had these speakers for just a couple of months and never had the volume higher than a medium-low and they already pop, sound scratchy and muffled. In fact all Alesis products are crap, I bought the Alesis Micron a few years back and paid $300 for it, had it for a few months and it crapped out as well. I will never buy an Alesis product again in my life, you couldn't give me an Alesis product because I'd rather put a fire out with my face than own Alesis.

Good performance for their size and price.
I have owned these for about 10 years now, and the first positive is that they hold up well under daily use, and perform as well as when new. No problems at all. That being said, they are best as reference monitors in a computer environment. This does not mean that they are a substitute for high quality self-powered monitors. They are a little thin on the bottom, and they have limitations in terms of listening pattern. I use them for monitoring of my telecine sound, including mastering, and they are quite adequate for the purpose. I briefly used them as monitors for my music workstation and they are tight enough for really basic work, but you could drive a truck through what they miss in terms of EQ and reverb, etc. Not recommended for serious music mixing. The bottom line is that they work very well for general computer monitors and simple, non-critical, listening to music. If you are looking for very nice computer monitors they are a very good choice at the price point.

Great little monitors...just make sure to break them in!
I purchased these as simple/cheapy monitors to jam through at work after hours. My pals and I run synths on our laptops and just make noise at night in an unused conference room. I wasn't expecting much more than "PC"-class speakers. Inside the packaging was a note saying "these need about 2-3 hours of music at moderate volume to be broken in and will sound better after the break in period." This is truth: they sound like horse-hocky right out of the box. This is also truth. After three hours of playing various music (rock/dance/alternative) through them, they indeed sound great! These are NOT bassy speakers...I mean it's a 3" woofer fer'crisakes...but they sound very clear and have enough low end to make me like playing my music through them. Would I like a sub? Sure, but these sound good, are portable and get loud enough to be annoyingly loud in a large conference room. If you have a powered subwoofer, these have a subwoofer signal out on the back. Not too shabby. One thing I noticed was that the input signal headroom is low. I was running music from my phone into the input and with my phone volume all the way up it was clipping here and there. After lowing the phone volume it was fine. Hope you enjoy them!

Very nice..........
I noticed some of the comments re volume , etc so ordered based more on previous experience of Alesis products, and was pleasantly surprised and pleased when they arrived. Not as big as I thought they would be, but more a bonus than a dissapointment. Re volume, for the average room, they are planty loud enough. I have mine connected to a seperate sub woofer via the sub out , and they give a pleasingly detailed and accurate sound. I have HHB Circle 5's and sub woofer on my main mixer , and use these on my PC , but they would be equally at home on my main mixing desk or hi-fi. I would say they are not far behind the HHB's in terms of sound quality, but at a fraction of the price. Bear in mind that if you want the best possible sound, even high end studios spending thousands on each monitor speaker use seperate sub woofers to seperate frequencies. There are two ways to use these speakers . One is stand-alone using the base boost for low frequecies - decent sound, especially if connected to hi-fi , etc and the other is with a seprate sub woofer. This means the speakers can handle mid and upper ranges with the sub handling low frequencies , and would be the preferred way if using for serious mixing duties, also giving much higher volume if required ( it really isn't though - higher volume does not mean it's better. detailed sound is what you really want if you are serious about good mixes). For the money , I think they are superb.
