So it is purely necessary. But comfort wise it is straight up annoying. If you sleep on your side it pushes over. Dont even think about sleeping on your stomach. The only moderate comfy position is on your back because the mask cant be moved. Also the edges of the mask press around your eyes and it sometimes hurts in the am. I know what your thinking I had it velcroed enough to stay on and keep my eyes covered. If I didnt have eyelashes I would just use the normal basic eye mask. The liner prevents your lashes from snagging. Without it this is useless.
