I bought this for myself because sometimes you just need a happy octopus in your life, but I bet all ages would like it too. If you're buying for a kid, it seems pretty well made, and I think it would hold up to being thrown around the room. The face is embroidered on so the only thing a kid could actually rip off are the legs, which seem like they would take some effort. I don't love the white cuddle pals tag sewn directly onto the side though. It's a smooth, firm embroidered patch, similar to the eyes, and the texture is a little scratchy which is not a great sensory experience. It bugs me a little, but it's not too difficult to avoid.
