Happiest Cat
My cat is extremely hard to please - i can't tell you how many beds, condos, scratchers I've bought her that she wouldn't go near. She's extremely picky and when I took this out of the box (which was massive), she ran over to it IMMEDIATELY and started scratching. I couldn't believe it. It's really tall so she can actually stretch out as you can see in the video. She really only loves carpet scratching posts and i like them since they're easy cleanup. She did use a sisal rope one before but the rope would get all torn up and stick out and poke her in the eye (not good). So I threw that out and have been searching and searching for one just like this. I was sooo happy it came in gray and not beige. it matches much better with my living room.

Great tall carpeted scratching post!
Tall scratching posts with carpet instead of sisal are hard to find. This one is both very tall & covered with good quality carpet. Very durable. I have 3 cats who use it all the time and it's holding up nicely. Very sturdy with a big base and a big circumference post. I highly recommend this post if you have cats that only like carpeted posts to scratch, and you want a tall one so they can really stretch to scratch.

Short lived, but pretty good while it lasted
I've had this scratching post for about eight months, and it's already pretty torn up. I'll have to buy a new one every year, by the looks of it. My last scratching post was much bigger, one of those hidey hole boxes with carpet on the outside for scratching. It lasted about four years, so... maybe that's because the older one had a lot more surface area, thus it took my cat longer to tear it up. With that said, I'm still pretty glad I found this, because I've had a really hard time finding a decent scratching post that wasn't made of that stupid cardboard or rope. My cat won't scratch those posts, only carpet, so... it's been a struggle. This scratching post is pretty decent in build. It's tall enough that my fluffy (by which I mean slightly obese) cat can use it well. It has a large enough base to hold itself upright while she's scratching it-- albeit, the post does wiggle back and forth when she uses it. The base is not big enough for her to stand on it while scratching the post, however, I've never had to worry about it falling over. It stays upright and she doesn't seem to mind that it wiggles a little bit, so all is well. Again, she's a pretty heavy kitty, so if this post can stand upright when she's jumping on it playfully, it should be safe for any cat. All in all, I would have liked it to last a little bit longer, but perhaps that's the nature of items that are made specifically for your cat to destroy: they do wind up destroyed, sooner or later, and must be replaced. For the price, I'd say this was a pretty good buy, and considering that it was one of the only scratching posts I could find that was both made of carpet and wasn't a giant playset that costed over a hundred dollars... I'm satisfied.

Nicely Carpeted Cat Scratching Post
My cat is happy with this scratching post. It is well carpeted and durable. This scratcher stays upright when my 12 pound cat “stands up” to scratch it. I have never seen this tip. I only have one cat and this scratcher is still in good condition after one year. I had to search high and low to find a carpeted scratching post. A lot of scratching posts are wrapped with sisal which is a plant-based fiber that is usually used for rope and twine. My cat doesn’t like to scratch sisal. I imagine the reason is because sisal is tough, rigid, not soft, and there is a risk that her claws could get caught in the sisal. My opinionated felis domesticus prefers to scratch tall carpet scratchers or wide, flat cardboard scratchers.

Worked fine for me
My smallest cat is 10 pounds, and her smallest "kitten" at 9 years old is 20 pounds, the biggest is almost 24 pounds. I had a smaller version of this post by another company, and it was unusable by them -- not tall enough! This post, they can all stretch out and scratch without hunkering down, and they use it all the time. It has great stability, and gets knocked over very seldom. A great value. The only caveat is, as they wear it down, the staples that hold the carpet on become exposed. you have to check it now and then and remove the staples so they don't fall on the floor and become a hazard to the cats. February 2012 -- Just ordered 2 more of these. The BEST scratching post on the market -- BAR NONE!! C'Mon! Where else can you get a quality 26" scratching post for under $20 SHIPPED?!? My cats can't resist these, and neither will yours! Not affiliated with this company in any way, just very, VERY satisfied! EDIT -- 12/7/2013 -- I was about to order one of these as a replacement for the three I have, but looks like they've lost their minds now and are charging $13+ shipping on a 20 item. Guess I'll look at what else is available on Amazon. Also knocking one star off for shipping cost.

Good review even though so many others thought it was poor quality.
Maybe the manufacturer read all the bad reviews and upgraded the quality. We were very hesitant to order this but its description was exactly what we needed so we went ahead. We were very pleased when it came because it’s fine. Maybe if we had multiple big cats, it wouldn’t be but it does exactly what our cat needs. We did have to anchor it down but we’ve always done that even with the big cat towers. That’s something a cat really needs...to feel secure in and on the things they decide to use.

Disappointed...
I bought this scratching post to replace the one I had, which was the same kind. It lasted a few years. My cat just wore it out, so we needed a new one for her. I am disappointed with the one I received for several reasons. First of all, when it was delivered, it was sitting on my doorstep without a box, just the shipping label taped to the base. On the back of the shipping label was torn brown paper. I can only assume the box tore during shipping, and so the label was torn off the box and taped to the scratching post. Secondly, the seam of the carpet around the post where it meets is clearly visible. Comparing this new post to my old post, the seam on the old post was not visible at all. Thirdly, I noticed the post wobbles back and forth a bit on the base. The bolt is tight on the bottom, so it is secured to the base tightly. It seems that the post itself does not fit in the base well. Also comparing this new one to the old one, the old one is very sturdy and does not wobble, even as worn out as it is. Overall, it seems as if this post was slapped together in five minutes by someone who didn't care about the quality. I am very disappointed in this scratching post. When it wears out, I will not be purchasing another one like this. I will buy elsewhere.

Perect!!......Not Anymore
Oh, I Have To Tell You...This scratching post just arrived in a "huge" box (assembled) for Rambo's Christmas present. The box was so big, we brought it in, opened it and he immediately knew that it was for him and started scratching on it..as well as enjoying getting in and out of that huge box. It was so hilarious that could not get a video fast enough! Nice carpet, high enough for large male cat, he doesn't like the ones with sisal, so is totally enamored with this new scratching post now because it is all carpet. Thus, Mama did well, good value and highly recommend! Second Review: I just bought a replacement because the above wore out. It cost nearly $20 more and is much lighter in weight...so Rambo can easily push it over while scratching. I kept it, but was very disappointed that the seller had lowered the quality so much but then raised the price so significantly!
