This book makes a lot of sense if you’re a Minnesotan from StPaul or Minneapolis where there are a lot of Hmong, Hispanic and Somali people. Camila spoke Spanish at home and Romelie’s family used American Sign Language because her brother was deaf. The family used their “hands, bodies and faces” to talk with him. Camila was able to sign the word ‘escuela’ and Romelie knew that it meant ‘school.’It was going to be fun learning more about Spanish and sharing with Camila.
