Black Ops 2 - Back in Black
Treyarch returns with the sequel to the hit title Call of Duty: Black Ops. This time around, Treyarch seeks to revitalize the stale franchise in ways that often actually work. After the reorganizing of Infinity Ward, I wasn't sure if I would ever really love a Call of Duty title again. I really enjoyed Black Ops but it still had that "sameness" to it. Looking back, I think a big portion of that was due to the recent modern military settings the franchise had been exploring. It was, in a sense, repeating the same mistakes it had made by constantly utilizing the World War II setting. With Black Ops 2, we are transported to an imagined future filled with high tech gadgets and fast paced warfare. The campaign is short as the previous Call of Duty titles since the popularization of online multiplayer have been. Imagine playing through a triple size action movie. Now imagine playing through a good action movie. That's exactly what the single player experience feels like. The integration of futuristic gadgets and methods of warfare is very refreshing as opposed to the old "walk down the corridor until all the enemies" are dead scenario. To be certain, there is still much of that. However, the large set pieces and action moments serve the story well and mix things up. The Strike Force additions are also a nice, innovative touch with the primary drawback being your allies' AI. I commend Treyarch for their well done attempt at moving the series forward. Multiplayer in Black Ops 2 is definitely the best we've seen. There have been many changes to discourage camping such as making Ghost and suppressors harder to unlock (Ghost also only works when you are in motion). The new scorestreaks (previously killstreaks) are very fun to play with and further immerse the player into that futuristic world of war. Scorestreaks, by the way, is perhaps the best system I've seen to reward players. Everything you do in game (assists, caputring objectives, etc) gives you points towards your overall scorestreak. This does well to encourage team play and get those pesky run-and-gunners to provide some level of support. The create-a-class system has been revamped with the all new 10 point system. This allows you to cater to your favored playing style in a way we've not seen before in the franchise. Customization is still there with playercards, weapon attatchments and camo (no face paint this time). The maps are also wonderfully designed and a welcome break from the trainwreck design featured in MW3. There are also a lack of contracts as seen in the first Black Ops. That was a feature I really enjoyed and so it is sad to see that wasn't carried over. Leveling up is somewhat harder and thus unlocking items for use is also more difficult. Most players are thus on a pretty equal footing for the first half of the leveling system. Overall, this is the best entry in the Call of Duty franchise since the initial Modern Warfare. Detractors of the franchise are still not going to find anything to like about the game while fans are going to revel in the very welcome changes. I think it is necessary to point out that Black Ops 2 serves to change and perfect what needs to be done while still preserving the essence that is Call of Duty. Players really don't want the series to change into something that is hardly recognizable as Call of Duty. More like they want the experience to feel fresh. I think Black Ops 2 does that well.

Black OPS II
this was my first time playing the COD series. i would caution anyone who is new to this game and buying it for the multiplayer/online play, to understand that it is not a "pick-up-and-play" type game; meaning that most likely, you are not going to be very good at it to begin with. it is a very fun and very addictive game and it will be very frustrating to new players as it takes some time to get used to the controls, aiming, POV, and the maps. plus, you start at the bottom with basic weapons and no accessories for them and its a "pay your dues" type of thing. as you get more accustomed to the play, you will be able to unlock very neat weapons and the controls and POV will become natural to you. it took me about 3 weeks to get the hang of it, during which i vowed to never play the game again as it seemed I was always the "sacrificial lamb" in the online matches...now i have a hard time putting the game down. again, once you get the hang of it, the game is really fun and is really never the same each time you play it. after my 3 week "break-in" period, i was able to advance past level 55 and "prestige" in less than a week-and-a-half. as for the reviews mentioning bugs and problems with the online play, i have experienced none. i have a moderate high speed connection but nothing fancy, so most anyone with a good cable or DSL should be good to go. so, if you have the time to put into this game and don't get discouraged while learning to play, you will most likely really like it and it may even become an addiction for you, too.

I had reservations about this game when it first came out... but now its my favorite Call Of Duty!
Before I bought this game, I had reservations about this because of how Black Ops was. But decided to give this game a try based on how multiplayer looked during trailers. I fell in love with this game. The multiplayer is set up to where each loadout has a maximum of 10 options for customization. for example, 1 gun wIith 2 attachments, 3 perks, a secondary with 1 attachment, and two grenades is one loadout max. That is 10 total options. BUT you have the option to have only a primary weapon with potentials of 6 perks using wildcard perks (Extra options for more perks, or up to 3 attachments on primaries, etc.). This really revolutionizes the way loadouts are created making it much more equal I believe. As for the guns and unlocking them, everything has to be bought just like in the original Black Ops which I like as well. You have to purchase the killstreak rewards in order to use them with a max of three. But here's the twist, the rewards are based on xp instead of kills. So in Kill Confirmed, if you capture 3 dogtags, you get 300xp which equals a UAV. You didn't need to kill anyone in order to use it! It makes the games much more interesting because kill streaks are easier to achieve, but nothing is so disastrous that it makes the games unplayable. Try it out and see what you feel! This is all based on my opinion and person-by-person experience may vary depending on how they like Call of Duty by Treyarch vs. Activision. I would highly recommend this game to any Call of Duty player no matter which side they fall on. Rent it, try it, buy it, love it. Definitely a 5/5 game worthy of buying which became my new favorite Call of Duty game.

My fav of the series!
Okay, lets face it,the only game that has a chance at outselling Halo 4 this year is Black Ops II, the newest in the Call of Duty line and already a guaranteed success. The game employs a League system, where players will be automatically matched up with people of similar skill level--I personally like this because when I first start a game, and haven't played others for a while, I find it difficult to get into the swing of things. Whether you are a legend or just plain terrible, you will be placed in one of seven classes and how well or badly you perform will decide where you move in the rankings. Of course, this could be bad or good, depending on whether or not you prefer an easy game or a real challenge. Finally, there will be a way for you to always be a spectator across numerous devices, ensuring that there is an alternative to playing. As for the gameplay and multiplayer itself, Call of Duty has already done virtually everything--so its not really too new--so the entire game is really just a variation of past successes but the story is now unique in that it is both past and future simultaneously, with branching storylines. Although, don't let that get you down because its still damn awesome. The zombies, especially, are awesome. That is what I care about the most. The biggest change to Call of Duty: Black Ops 2's Zombie gameplay comes in the form of its campaign mode. Titled Tranzit, this tosses you and up to three of your friends into the biggest world the team at Treyarch has ever created for Zombies. Your goal in Tranzit is simple: kill all the undead that you come across and leave a trail of bodies in your wake. You and your team jump between a number of locales along the way, doing what appears to be defensive stands and clearing them out before moving on to the next place. This means that it wont have to be the same map over and over--we finally get a campaign. You'll also have plenty to look out for while you're battling in the zombie-infested wasteland, as Tranzit now includes "buildables," something Treyarch describes as elements you can put together to do things like open up new parts of the world or make weapons. But as fun as a campaign will be, it will never be the same as the traditional survival rounds. Like the original Black Ops, you can play solo or with three opponents. Treyarch's also has developed a new take on competitive play for Zombies called Grief. Unlike traditional competitive games both sides have to deal with a third party that wants their brains -- the Zombies. In Grief, your only goal is to have your team outlive the other, but, unlike every other Call of Duty mode you've ever played, you can't shoot other players. Instead you have to "grief" them and get the zombies to do the work for you. This is what I've been most excited for--and it is not a let down. Finally, for those that still aren't satisfied--or just can't get enough--there is now a way to create your own using the Custom games feature. You can live out your hardcore zombie fantasy and make it so only headshots kill, turn off magic items and set your starting round. This awesome; no more playing just to get to high rounds--if you really want to test yourself, see how you do way down the line. Now, I know, just as much as I love zombies, others love multiplayer. I'm not as big on it as I am zombies, but its still a hell of a play. Call of Duty Black Ops II's Multiplayer is set in the year 2025. It will feature a new class and customization system with Score Streaks rather than Kill Streaks, which isn't just dependent on the number of kills you get. They also have a few new score streak rewards too, and I Think my favorite has to be the Dragon fire--a remote controlled flying sentry gun. Its been featured in the black ops wallpaper that came with the preorder. It's a great example of how they take advantage of the 25 years in the future and spit out a damn cool machine. The Create a Class system has been much improved from the original Call of Duty Series. This time, each perk, weapon, and equipment has their own amount of points. In this way, every player will create a class in their own customizable way, as long as their points don't add up over ten when going into a match. This will allow players to switch up their play style. Treyarch is trying hard to streamline the user interface for new and experienced players, and are emphasising team-based play more than ever. I got into shooter games because I loved the multiplayer, free for all mostly, but I've learned to love the team matches. For those who are still new to the multiplayer experience, Treyarch has revamped the Combat Training system. I was never big on this, but others may be. Treyarch has revamped the Prestige System, there are 10 prestiges and 55 levels. One of the new implentations is that weapon unlocks including camos and attachment do not reset after prestiging, meaning once the gun is unlocked once again you have all the unlocks you had previously. I love this because I never wanted to bother re-earning my guns--I guess Im just not a hardcore enough player, but Treyarch has worked hard to motivate players like me into going that extra mile Black Ops II Multilayer is meant to be played all the way to Prestige 10. Prestiging also rewards the player by giving them an unlock token to permanantly unlock any piece of equipment, prestiging also grants you a prestige token to unlock one of the three options per prestige: Once you reach 10th Prestige level 55 you become the "Prestige Master" which then allows you to have the ability to unlock everything in Create-a-Class. Is it enough to get me to do it? I'll let you know after I've made it that far--It's just come out and I've only touched the surface of the game. For now, I've said all that I can. So I'll conclude with this: when the first came out, I was a fan of MW2 and not too big on World at War, so I waited to buy Black Ops. But after playing BOs, I've fallen in love with it, zombies especially. So I couldn't wait to get BO2, and it does not let you down! 5/5 stars. A must buy! EDIT: 11/15/12 Okay, I have had some issues. It freezes several times, and I have to restart my system. I think it has something to do with certain people having bugs. My PS3 friends that have the problem say it won't let them join multiplier, and if they join my party it won't let me either. Another time, they tried to join my session while I was about to start a multiplayer game and it glitched and froze. So, unfortunately it has a few kinks to fix. You may want to wait, but even if I had known about them, I can't say I would of waited. It still loads of fun. I especially like the ease of the new menus and the ability to set which menu comes up at start (multiplier, campaign, and zombies). EDIT: 11/25/12 Most of the glitches seem to be sorted out. I don't have any problems now. Now, I see no reason not to buy the game. I haven't been this interested in multiplayer games since MW2. And the new zombie game Tranzit is great because you can move around and are able to store money and weapons for future games. Its a way to play and invest for future games, so even if its not the best game, as long as you have made a little money, its still a good game. So, I highly suggest this game, especially now that its down to $50. Update: 12-24-12 Okay, you know, I've had it for a month now, and the initial issues have passed. However there were some new ones that surfaced and stayed for good. Mostly, its server issues. Trying to start a game in a party that the server doesn't like will mean an endless "waiting for host" message. When a host leaves zombies, what is supposedly suppose to be able to allow the host to migrate only makes you sit there for five minutes before saying it can't. That happens of multiplier too but not as often. Other things I have began to notice and have a growing distaste for are things like it trying to reconnect to a party that the host decided to abandoned. Once in a blue moon it works, but usually your just stuck there for five minutes with no option to cancel the attempt to reconnect. Don't get me wrong, I still love the game. It is my most played game, but it is glowingly frustrating and unnecessarily difficult at times. However, I should note, that most of these issues that i have are when I am attempting to play with select friends. I find things to be much more smoother when I just search for a game solo. The thing is, we never had these problems in BO1. So, to finish up, it isn't unplayable, but it is at times very difficult to work with. At $45, i think its a good choice, especially if your a big fan of the series. Still, overall I'd say 3.5/5 stars, and fun, when it works, 5/5 UPDATE: 2-8-12 After a number of updates, they have patched several glitches. Of course, I have to admit, it pisses me off that they are more worried about patching glitches than actually fixing things that prevent game play because there are still other issues that do just that. Occasionally your playing zombies and all of a sudden the sound stops and in its place is this weird clicking noise like something you'd hear from Alien. It only goes away when you restart the game. You could mute it, but to your peril, because the noise is a signal that your PS3 is going to freeze eventually. Not immediately, but if your on round 34, keep playing, and hey, its round 36 and your game stat is gone. Other than that, the game seems to play smoothly. So, there has been some improvement. I'm also annoyed about the month you have to wait after XBOX users to get the new map pack. Its bulls***. Either way, I'll update once I've played it.

Great Campaign, some multiplayer glitches...
Yes, I am still one of the few people who buys and plays for the Campaign mode and think of the multi-player as an add on. So far, I am about 6 hours into the campaign and believe I am almost done with it. One word to describe it: "Amazing" Not only is this the best story in any COD game I have ever played, (This one is my 5th), Treyarch actually added new features to the gameplay. Now, more than ever, decisions I made influenced things like who died and the story outcome . There is also a new mode, which lets you control battles from a third person perspective. You can switch to any character's first person perspective or drone in battle, if you like and think your army is not preforming well, using your own skills to help the team. Zombies is also back and better than MW3's. There is a new "mini" adventure mode, in which you and others try to uncover secrets about the place ur exploring, pretty fun, but you always end up dying, as there is no end to this "adventure mode" You can also fight off waves of Zombies like the other games, but to me, zombie's was not really why I bought this game and gets old after a while. Multiplayer is why a lot of you bought this game, and rightfully so. This time, multiplayer introduces features like the new 10 point system, letting you pick from a selection of weapon "grades" But also with this, are the glitches activation brings to every game. Match making is really bad. It took 10 minutes for every game I have played so far to be found and connected, which is way too long when you only have an hour to play. I'm sure activison will release patches in the near future to fix this, but for now, its pretty unacceptable. So far, I'm only level 31, but from what I've played. the spawning is terrible. It doesn't matter which map I play, two seconds after I spawn, a camper decides to screw me over, it gets annoying, and I hope Activision fixes this as well. Truth be told, I would be playing right now if I were at home, and if MIT's professors weren't so boring, I probably would not be writing a review while my teacher is talking about the molecular levels of hydrogen. (Sorry, back to the point)... Overall, this is a fantastic game other than some multiplayer issues which can easily be fixed. 9.1/10

Live and Learn-I Wish I Could Make a Living Doing This
I gave this game five stars. You will wonder why in a few minutes. OK. So, I am a smart guy. Got a few degrees and a doctorate in law. Which means, I should read and know better. BUT, I do give credit where credit is due, and Activision has a scam to make money that makes lawyers look like...Girl Scout Cookie sellers. Black OPs 2 crashed my PS3 within three minutes. I have an original PS3. Never been a problem. In fact, it works perfectly all the time. I bought it because it had a Blu Ray player in it when Blu Ray players were selling for a grand. The PS3 was on sale for around three bills if I bought a Sony Bravia TV on sale for a grand in 2006. Sold. So,. I have played LOTS of games on this system. When I purchased Black Ops 2, I purchased an Xbox type PS3 controller for a friend who likes that controller, and I got the Frag thingie that lets me use a mouse in the right hand and an erg controller for the left. I don't like the PS3 controller. Just me. So,. we load the game, the game calls for the famous NOVEMBER UPDATE...and my PS3 crashes. After four attempts, after clearing everything off the drive, after hours of wasted time, the system crashes every time I try to load this FIFTY DOLLAR GAME. The short of it...DO NOT BUY THIS GAME UNLESS YOU HAVE RENTED IT AND TESTED IT ON YOUR PS3. AFTER buying it, and it seems it is not refundable after opened, which makes no sense, since you can't KNOW if it will crash your console until AFTER you own it, I did what I usually do and did not do in this case.....google PS3 crashing when loading Black Ops 2. Well, imagine my surprise when millions of hits showed up of folks JUST LIKE ME...we gave our money to Activision for NO SANE REASON. Yes, I gave away fifty bucks. Just like that. I know folks who have tried too many times to load the game, and guess what? It destroys their console. Done. Kapupt. Won't ever start again. Morale of story: Activision did a horrible job on this game for PS3. My Xbox friends just LOOOOVE this game. I will never know. I like my PS3 because it streams perfectly, plays Blu Ray perfectly, and plays all my OTHER games perfectly. Skip Black Ops. Oh, and why did I give it five stars? Because any company that can get away with stealing fifty bucks, legally, is worthy of my respect. After all, I am a lawyer. And winning is everything. Caveat emptor, folks. Caveat emptor. I lost. They won. The end.

My Favorite Call of Duty Yet
Since there are so many reviews of this game I won't go too in depth but I've had both the Xbox 360 version and PS3 version and made it to prestige master on both because this is one of the few COD's I've liked this much that I can invest the time into it and not get sick of it. Without a doubt it's the best looking COD created so far and has the best campaign mode yet with an incredible amount of replayability due to the many different ways the dynamic story can go. I don't care for zombies that much but it can be fun if you play with friends or other people online that are good at it. The Modern Warfare campaign is very good in its own way and those games are always fun to go back and play now and then but for whatever reason I've loved the Black Ops series more and hope Black Ops 3 will be made and find a way to continue the same story or be related to the first one somehow. Nearly all the maps on this game are very enjoyable, I love the freedom to create your own playercards and emblems, and gun customization is great. It's a whole lot packed into a game that can be bought cheap now and still has a huge amount of player traffic so there's fun to be had in this title for years to come.

Received the package in a very good condition and also incredibly fast delivery, as always by Amazon. Good game play as well in this sequel to the First part of COD Black Ops series. The story mode is so intriguing that even playing the same in PC, I again dived back in the PS3 platform.... ;)
