Day one. So far so great. They light up my three season patio and make the patio much more inviting. I live in Minnesota where the winter months will usually weaken the effectiveness of solar panels dramatically. So I will update you guys periodically throughout Winter. I will also critique the effectiveness of the solar panel in general. It is currently fall here. We still get pretty good sun light so we'll see how the lights shine after a few days. My guess is that they won't be as bright as they are now.Day 2: keep in mind it's Sep. 25. The lights turned on automatically when it got dark out; around 6-7pm. This was nice. The lights lasted until about 9-10pm. Wish it would have lasted until 12-2. But I guess as winter is approaching if you are planning to have guests you should plan to charge it for about two days. Note that according to the manual, this product will not charge when you flip the on/off switch off. I have the solar panel inside the patio with Windows closed.Got home around 9. I was admiring the lights and they died as I watched them at precisely 9:20pm. I cannot say when they turned on precisely but my guess is around 6-7 as that's when it got dark out. I left home around 550 and it wasn't that dark yet and the lights weren't on so 6-7 is a guess.Update: 9:40pm the lights turned back on. Idk how. Either someone's in my patio or there was a little juice left..... Okay actually as I'm working this they turned back off.Day three lights turned on around 7. There was hardly any sunlight out today. The sunlight was very weak. Lights ran out of juice around 8pm. See picture for how the daylight had been like for most of the day. And also where I place the solar panel. The light actually just turned back on as I was writing this for about 30 seconds and then they turned off again.Week 2-3ish - it's mid October. The lights shine for maybe less than an hour now. Sometimes they go for two hours. But most of the time it's less than an hour.Winter months coming close to an end: so I haven't seen these lights come on since winter; actually maybe once for a minute or two. I used zip ties to secure a string to my metal gazebo and it went quickly and looks quite nice.WHAT WOULD HAVE HELPED?1) The directions tell you to peel the protective film off the solar panel. My panel, and as I’ve read in some of these reviews, did not have a protective film. I ran the risk of damaging he solar cells trying to dig for piece of the film I could grasp to pull off. Wasted time and potential damage to panel.1) The directions suggest testing your string of lights before installing them. What they did not tell you was that such a test will result in the lights turning on only for 10-15 seconds. I thought I had a faulty set until I spent time reading Q&As on Amazon. Someone had called he company and was told that was normal in daylight. It has to be completely dark for the lights to stay on. That info in the instructions would have saved me time and a possible return.3) There’s a lot of confusion re the solar rechargeable battery and the AA batteries in the Q&A and in the reviews. When I opened the box I expected to find a package rechargeable batteries that I would install in the solar panel. There is an empty battery compartment in the rear of the panel with slots for three AA size batteries. Experience had prepared me to believe that is where the rechargeable batteries were to be placed. I have nearly 40 solar lights in my backyard and they are all powered by an AA-size ni- cad battery. HOWEVER, these slots are for the “optional” AA back-up batteries. The ni- cad battery must be in the apparently inaccessible box above the empty optional battery compartment. That would have been useful info to know in advance.4) It looks like these strings can be “ganged” together or at least add another solar panel. There is an identical connector at each end.Anyway, great set of lights.
