Over all I am happy that I read this book

*by C***N on Reviewed in the United States on May 9, 2015*

This is a good book.John Gray shared a lot of information that I was not aware of such as the harmful effects of ADHD medication on the brain, the way ADHD medication makes people more prone to be addicted to things, and the wide amount of ways ADHD shows up in peoples behaviors. He goes in to great depth about the mechanisms in the brain that cause ADHD and other symptoms to manifest. He describes what causes these brain level processes to happen and the ways to heal them. John gets very candid about his own experiences with ADHD and it really does seem through this book that he is very determined and passionate about this subject. His main goal with this book seems to be to help people. He even tells you early on in the book that if all you want to do is take action steps you can just skip to certain chapters in the book. There are a mixture of non supplement and supplement solutions to the ADHD problem in this book. Non supplement solutions include removing certain over stimulation activities such as caffine , videos games , etc. He takes the extremely unpopular position of suggesting that video games contribute to the underlying causes of ADHD. I found this interesting and would like to see more research and information about this, I would like to know if playing video games really does contribute to my ADHD like symptoms. Other non supplement approaches he recommends are hot baths. Which are awesome. Ive been doing the hot baths on and off for a while since I read this book and few things are more relaxing than following the hot bath protocol he describes in the book. I haven't been doing it as regularly as is suggested in the book though. He recommends doing the hot baths every other day for six months. I can totally see how this would be beneficial. He even claims that there was a study done where hot baths greatly helped people with autism. Another one is chiropractic and body work which is interesting and I had never heard of it being used in connection with ADHD. I haven't tried much of the bodywork stuff. but I would be interested in trying it someday. His suggestion was that bodywork can heal the head trauma that can be a cause of ADHD. And I have definitely had some head trauma. This book really made me appreciate how much ADHD can take away from your life and also made me hopeful that there are solutions. If you care about your ADHD then reading this book will make you want to make some lifestyle changes as there are lot of things that are contributing to the underlying cause of ADHD. So don't buy this if you don't want to change your diet or your lifestyle. The supplement solution he presents is pretty intense and kind of expensive depending on your budget. I haven't tried all of the supplements but I have tried a few. It does get kind of "salesmany", But the few supplements that he recommends that I have tried actually work. Grape seed extract, while not as grand as some of the advertisements made it out to be, actually does have an attention boosting effect. And lithium orotate, which is another weird supplement that Mr. Gray is a fan of, really does help me calm down and fall asleep. I bet if you went full on with the most advanced level of his supplement protocol you would probably feel really awesome. But it would probably cost you 500 dollars.Over all I am happy that I read this book. It is a unique and inspired voice in the area of ADHD and I look forward to volume two which is supposed to focus less on diet and supplements and mostly on relaxation and meditation. And the cherry on top is that this book is free if you subscribe to his newsletter on his website.

    Miraculous effect

Having been unable for three years to organize my life, with my papers and my life in chaos, and not able to even locate and gather needed papers for tax returns, I was desperate. I could not focus on anything. Many prescriptions by my doctor were tried and had failed, some very expensive (one was $200!) and some with terrible side effects. No one knew whether my problem was ADD or bi-polar or both. After reading online reviews of the lithium orotate (5 mg) (thank you, Amazon reviewers!), I bought the one suggested as best and began taking it barely 3 weeks ago.My life has changed. Within days, two of these capsules daily enabled me to organize most of my tax papers, and to begin to organize other important records. I will be able to send my tax papers to an accountant I just spoke with, and he'll work with me to complete, with or without deductions (still hard to find misplaced documentation). I can leave my task and go back and continue, without great anxiety or confusion, or forgetting where I had left off. I have a lot to catch up on, but I now have hope that I can do it.I don't know how or why this condition developed and progressed. I was successful in college, graduating with honors and invited to join Phi Beta Kappa. I had, at one time, been a highly organized person and accomplished a great deal. But in the past few years several very traumatic events occurred one after the other; I've read that can affect one's cognitive abilities. I even went for neuropsych testing -- thinking I might have developed dementia or another condition -- but the MRI and three-hour cognitive tests found no abnormality. This one supplement has been miraculous for me. As a background note: I had been prescribed lithium years ago but the pharmaceutical-sized dose was intolerable, and the smaller, supplement-sized one was never mentioned as an alternative. I recently read an article in the NYTimes online (September 13, 2014) by Dr. Anna Fels, a psychiatrist and faculty member at Weill Cornell Medical College, entitled, "Should We All Take a Bit of Lithium?" She recounted a 1990 study that found areas with low levels of lithium in the water of 27 Texas counties were correlated with significantly higher rates of depression, suicide, and criminality. Over the years this phenomenon has been confirmed by studies in other countries including Japan, Greece, and Austria -- very different populations. I strongly recommend that anyone having ADD problems read her article. After reading the article, I looked up lithium online and came across John Gray's books.I thank God for John Gray's work in this area and his efforts to share this information, which has been kept out of our general media by the medical industry -- especially FDA and big pharma. I am also very grateful to Dr. Fels for sharing her knowledge. This is a natural trace element (lithium salt) not a drug (which is a molecule). As we all know, Big Pharma can't make money by recommending something as simple as a natural supplement! The question for me is, why aren't doctors -- who would be more motivated than the drug companies to help their patients regardless of profit -- recommending this possibility in their treatments?I only gave the book 4 stars because I haven't even finished reading the book and don't know whether the other, more detailed protocols might produce other results, so this review is focused mainly on the suggestion to take lithium as a supplement, and not yet on the other suggestions. Thank you, John Gray for helping me gain control of my life again.

This book seems to not be getting the notice it deserves!

Hard to express how groundbreaking the contents of this book are - my only complaint from a consumer standpoint was the quality of the book. Very cheap printing, but not so much so that it could be easily torn apart. John Gray claims that he has reversed a Parkinson's diagnosis and outline the science behind his approach. He touches on ADHD, Autism, and other little understood maladies of our day. He does not get overly scientific, and I would recommend this for medical professionals, health enthusiasts and the average reader as well.
