I'd recommend just returning it to Amazon as defective. They are good about returns that are truly defective. **Q: Does this generate enough heat to loosen rusted nuts on bolts?** A: It will work, just have to hold it there a while to get enough heat into the nut. This is more of a household low heat nozzle. **Q: Can this melt lead?** A: I have not tried melting lead, bought this torch to make up new copper water line using lead free solder, but years ago prior to conversion to lead free solder I melted plenty of 50/50 lead.
