I have used another brand before and it was very time consuming and quality was bad. The Pacific Image Box was user friendly, quality of pictures from old slides was much better. I still use a internet based photo finishing program to restore the original image as much as possible but would be satisfied to just have them like they are if that wasn't available. At least there will be no further degradation of the old photos now that they are digital. It was perfect. Set up is easy. Basically just plug it in, insert the SD card, put in the picture, and then hit the button. It is not designed to scan any picture that's bigger that 4x6. It is also portable. Brought to a friend's house to scan old pictures for a party slideshow. Worked great and everyone loves it. ### ⭐⭐⭐ 3.0 out of 5 stars good and bad *by T***M on Reviewed in the United States on November 2, 2011* the good:It's fast, about 10 seconds or so per scan.if you have a standard image that doesn't have too much contrast, this scanner does an oustanding job for both negs and slides.the bad:The user interface is confusing, not intuitive, and takes a bit to get set up so you're actually doing what you think you're doing.If you have an image (slide) of, let's say, a face, lit by a candle, with a fairly dark background, this scanner tries to be smarter than you are and tries to correct the image. I have not been able to get it to understand that I knew what I was doing when I shot the original image, that I wouldn't be scanning the image if I didn't like it, and that I want it to let me figure out what I want to do.
