In order to answer your question properly, I just recorded a new age piano song off of Pandora with a babbling brook in the background. I used my computer's Logitech speakers and it sounded pretty good; the water came out clear. I imagine a high-level microphone would help. I guess it really depends on what exactly you are using it for. When I play back my dictation I can hear a little background static, but I could not hear it with the music.
