## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does this have a narrow enough field of view to be used to monitor a front door without triggering whenever someone was walking around in the room?**
A: You'd have to play with it to get it adjusted properly for that application. Perhaps you could aim it at the top of the door so people walking around went under the beam. The beam isn't particularly narrow but the edges are fairly sharp so it's possible (I think).

**Q: How does sensor work-just barrier being broken or does patient wear sensor**
A: If barrier is broken the sensor the pager will make a very loud sound. As there was no adjustment for sound control, we always placed the pager in another room. Trust me, you will hear the sound. This device was a life saver for the family as caregivers for our father. I daresay it prevented many falls and broken bones.

**Q: I see on the back there is a place to insert a dc 6-12 v adapter. can you use this instead of batteries?**
A: Yes you can use an adapter, but it is important to use the one made by the manufacturer for this product. There are currently two different versions of the TL-5102MP in circulation, and each of them take a different adapter. We recommend contacting the manufacturer, Smart Caregiver, at 800-650-3637 in order to determine which model you need.

**Q: Does the pager chime automatically turn off after a couple of minutes or does the caregiver have to turn it off to stop the chiming?**
A: Previous answers are correct. If there is just a little movement, the alarm will stop ringing. As if someone just moved around in bed a little. If the movement continues, the alarm will also continue until you turn it off.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolute necessity for elderly monitoring
*by T***2 on July 22, 2023*

Have two of these alarms and we could not be more pleased! One is dedicated to keeping an eye on our elderly parent in bed. The other unit is for when parent is watching TV in family room and we are outdoors gardening, in the barn or mowing. The alarm sound component is portable. We slip it in a pocket or just place it where we're working. We can hear the alarm chime in a pocket over the tractor noise - great for when parent moves or needs our help. We mow about an acre and the unit has no issues covering this area.We use these great little monitors in conjunction with radio wave baby monitors (we never use wifi monitors due to hacking privacy issues). Our elderly parent is monitored while we are going about household chores by day and during the night.Five years of 24/7 use these monitors are still reliable. They are easy on batteries. We've only changed batteries out twice in three years. The unit actually lets you know when the batteries need changing - the alarm starts to sound like a creature from the outer limits. Please note the two alarm sound choices are somewhat sappy, and very loud. That's actually a great feature if you are a sound sleeper or on a tractor. We keep the alarm unit outside our bedroom as it's a bit startling when it goes off. We're ordering a couple more units as spares. We also use the gardening unit to keep an eye on our open (and locked) sliding screen door, just in case a visitor comes there instead of the front door.Unit is simple, low cost, so far completely reliable, no wifi to mess with, no apps, just your ears being alerted if your patient is moving. Kudos to the manufacturer.Highly recommend!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Does exactly what I need it to do.

PROS: Wakes me up in time to get to Dad's bedside before he gets up and falls.CONS:,Can't let the cats in his room at night, can't really use as a chair alarm, sensor will pick up every move he makes while sitting, anyone who walks by, etc.Dad has dementia, and has become a fall risk when getting up every night without fail to use the bathroom. Needed an alarm to awaken me so I could get to him before he gets out of bed, as he has become increasingly unsteady upon awakening. Cannot teach him to use a night commode for obvious reasons (dementia!)At first, tried another wireless alarm- purchased the combination pack of chair pad/bed pad with wireless remote alarm. The alarm sound itself worked, but would not sound until a FULL FIVE SECONDS AFTER dad moved. Useless!! He could get up and be more than halfway to the bathroom by then, and have already fallen. Back to the drawing board. This is a very basic motion detector, but sensitive, and I have no trouble with the range of the wireless alarm box. I can take it anywhere throughout the house or to a point out in the yard, and still be assured the signal will be received. The wireless alarm unit is great, as the alarm does not sound in the patient's room, potentially startling them and causing a fall, which is what we are trying to prevent. The biggest challenge we had was figuring out placement of the motion sensor box itself; because it IS sensitive, you can't mount it high enough so that it will pick up every little movement, toss or turn of the person in bed, which it absolutely will. The key was to place it on the floor between the bed and the nightstand, facing down the length of the bed, so that as soon as Dad's foot hits the floor, the alarm sounds instantaneously, and I can get to him before he has even stood up. Pushed the bed against the wall so he can get out of bed only on that side. The alarm box has two volume settings, "loud as F" and "the dead shall rise up". Kidding, sort of. Lower setting sounds like an electronic doorbell (ding dong! ding dong!), very loud, wakes me every time, and I really do sleep like the dead. The second setting is an electronic snippet of the William Tell overture, and trust me, you will not need this setting unless you are truly hard of hearing and need a more extended sound. Considering many caregivers out there might truly be, this is a bonus. If you startle easily, avoid the loud setting unless you want to have to be scraped off the ceiling when it does go off!Even if I am awakened a few times a night, I'm still resting easier knowing that I can get to him immediately. I have set up an air bed in the next room over from his for proximity, and this has been working pretty well so far!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Nearly Perfect!

Very sensitive with good remote range and works well for auntie with Alzheimer's. I keep it aimed over the top of the bed while she's sleeping or napping. After taping over portions of the lense and sussing out the just-right-spot, I almost never get false alarms due to her raising a leg or an arm while lying down. (If not for her small dog that visits her in bed often, I'd just aim the transmitter along the floor by the bed, greatly simplifying things.)Definitely spring for the 110 VAC wall plug, and stop worrying about battery life.I took off a star for two reasons.1-the remote has two alarms positions and the off (silence) position, selectable via a sliding switch. The switch slides from Alarm 1 (quite loud and do-able, think of the alarm that the door at a 7/11 makes when you go in or out), then Off, then Alarm 2 (a very loud, annoying sea-chantey thing that goes what feels like forever). When the thing alarms, and you're heading for auntie's bedside, it's very easy to slide the switch from the alarmingly loud Alarm 1, PAST the "off" position and into the horrifyingly loud (and don't forget long and annoying) Alarm 2. If your Alzheimer's-suffering auntie spent her early career crewing in square-rigged commercial sailing vessels, this loud, perky, sea chantey could spark some comforting bit of nostalgia for her, otherwise, it's completely loud and possibly disturbing. To fix this I glued a very short section of a wooden skewer stick into the Alarm 2 part of the switch, so now I can silence the alarm by feel while on the run.2- The main transmitter is housed in a nice "rockable" bracket, and comes with some double-back sticky tape for mounting the thing precisely where you need it. Unfortunately, you loose most if the rockability and mountability when you plug the 110 AC adapter into the back. Just be aware of that.Overall, I'm thrilled with this low-cost solution to everyone getting a little shut-eye around here.
