## Description

desertcart.com Opening the oven to check on a food's temperature means wasting the cook's time and losing oven temperature and moisture--not to mention a face full of steam. This thermometer prevents those problems. Insert the instrument's 6-inch stainless-steel probe into a roast beef or turkey and monitor the time and temperature (from 32 to 392 degrees F) on the thermometer's large digital display, which connects to the probe with a 4-foot cord. The control panel sets cooking time and temperature, and an alarm sounds when either is reached. Fully opened, the thermometer/timer is 5 inches high, but it folds flat for compact storage. Magnets on the back permit it to be temporarily mounted on a metal surface. --Fred Brack Product Description Effortlessly open each and every bottle of wine! Review: Accurate, durable thermometer - I have been very happy with this thermometer. It has a nice long cord with a coating of silicone. The temperature readings have been very accurate. Boiling water reads 212 F, ice water near 32 F. Readings for cooked foods seem accurate, too. It can read up to about 400 F, so it works great for checking the oil temperature when deep frying. I use it mainly for deep frying and for using in the oven. There is a switch on the back to change between Celsius and Fahrenheit. It also comes with a timer, which I don't use very often, but it works fine. I do use the temperature alert quite a bit. This allows you to set an alarm that goes off when a specified temperature is reached. The alarm is very loud, so you can hear it all through the house. I am now on my third one of these, and I have some words of warning: - Even though there is a magnet on the back, the only thing you should use it for is to stick it to your refrigerator. I was using it with my Weber grill, put the lid on the grill, and stuck the thermometer on the lid. Yes, that was foolish. The casing is plastic and plastic melts under high heat. Imagine that! That is how I ruined the first one. - The second one lasted me 7+ years. I use it a lot for deep frying, both for checking the temperature of the oil and for testing the heat of the food. It works perfectly for this, However, I tend to leave the unit too close to the oil and it gets spattered with oil quite a bit. It finally got to the point where the buttons were too gummed up with oil and didn't work very well. Because it comes with a long cord, just make sure you stretch it out to keep the unit away from the hot oil. I use mine several times a week, so as long as you take care of it, it should last you many years.
Review: Works perfect! - Like many other reviewers, I have owned several of these thermometers over the years. I've had all different models and price ranges and it always ends the same - dead probe. No matter how gently it's handled and washed, it only lasts for so long. This Taylor model has a plastic coated wire (some prefer the metal mesh/netted probes, but these also break in time). The probe wire is nice and long so there is plenty of slack. The unit has an on/off switch to conserve battery life. It can be set to alarm at a specific temperature with a decently loud beeping noise that can be easily heard a room or two away. This feature could also be set on/off. It has a timer that will display how long food has been in the oven. (I found this useful for the Thanksgiving turkey). The temperature reading is dead-on accurate, which is the most important thing to me. I tested it before I used it in boiling water and got 212 degrees on the nose. After about a half dozen uses, I thought it was reading wrong so I re-tested it in the boiling water. It shot up to 212 degrees again without a problem. It also reads fairly quickly. I've had others that will climb very slowly, a degree at a time until it decides on a temperature reading. This one goes climbs at a decent pace, a few degrees at a time and gives a clear reading without fluctuating around. All in all, it does everything it is supposed to do and does it well. For fifteen bucks, I am very satisfied. How long it will last is yet to be seen. Sadly, it seems most small appliances and gadgets only last a year or so these days. (I have to replace toasters, irons, egg cookers, etc every year or two). I guess it's true that "they don't make 'em like they used to." At least for fifteen bucks, it's not as painful when it does break.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great timer/thermometer but could be better
*by K***O on June 16, 2014*

We bought this a while back and it worked well for a few years. We really liked it because it has the timer as well as the thermometer and it was in larger print so that you could see it easily from across the room. The main issue with ours was the thermometer. That part of this instrument just stopped working properly. It would not read correctly so we had to stop using it as such but we are still able to use it as a timer so it's not a total loss. If it still worked completely I would give it 5 stars but since part of it stopped working I took one off. Still when we first purchased it, it was only about ten bucks so it was worth the price we paid for it then and it did work well for a couple of years so not a bad purchase at all. If you can get a deal on it then I would snap it up!
