(1) The instructions were provided only in Japanese. I found, at Casio's website, instructions for a very similar model in English and used them. (2) The display illumination (a yellow LED, switched on by the upper right button) is really for emergencies only. Using it a very few times will run down the battery (which recharges in room light or sunlight). (3) This solar-powered watch sleeps when it's kept in the dark. After about an hour in the dark at nighttime, the second hand stops moving. (Perhaps not a good watch to use in dark environments.) After a week in the dark, the hands go to 12 o'clock and stop.
