This was my first time creating a block. While I didn't do a perfect job, the glue has worked quite well. With just a brush swipe across the edges, I saved over $25 dollars and ended up with a larger block of paper. The glue has held up against watercolor and acrylic paints with no separation. I did get some between the pieces of paper. The glue held, while part of the paper peeled off. So, the glue works better than my new skill. If you are going to try to make your own watercolor paper blocks, a small sponge brush might work better. I used a paint brush. I believe some of the individual hairs went between the pieces of paper and got the glue where I didn't want it causing the issue. I started with a small bottle about the size of a craft paint bottle, as I had no idea how much area the glue would cover. I made 2 9x12 blocks and will be able to make several more. This was their response: Our padding compound is not acid free. The base polymer used for padding compound is naturally low in pH but is not considered a dangerous chemical as defined by 29 CFR 1910.1200. This product is no more dangerous than any white glue you would buy at your local store. **Q: Is there a recommended brush to use with this compound?** A: I use a foam brush but not sure. This product is great **Q: Is the binding strip insoluble after it dries?** A: I had to look up the word insoluble to make sure I understood the question. Assuming you are using the padding compound on paper, I'm not sure why you need an insoluble padding compound. I think it's a very good compound for padding papers such as scratch pads. One coat is enough but I used two just to be sure. Before I found this padding compound I was using a hobby compound called MOD-POGE . Okay but too thick.
