I would screw it on about 2 inches from the out side edge.** A: Yes, I would say it is solid enough for a crawl space door. What I received was used for making large molds and the whole sheet was rigid. It may need a c-channel frame to keep its shape if it is exposed to heat/sunlight to prevent warping, but I am not 100% sure as to how much warping may occur if any with the HDPE. I hope this is helpfull. **Q: Is it common for covering outdoor deck?** A: I don’t think it is **Q: What is the strength rating for this material, 1/2" vs 3/8" vs 1/4" ?** A: I don't know. I was concerned about cutting, sanding, and drilling the marine board. I contacted the supplier and they were very helpful and provided useful tips. Cut out the seat with a band saw and sanded the edges. I was surprised at how easy it was to work with. You just have to go slow. Very pleased with the outcome and the support from the supplier.
