The Standard Starter Fertilizer is just fertilizer. However the PLUS version has the all important Endo & Ecto Mycorrhizae enzymes. Those inert enzymes are activated by moisture and immediately begin their fundamental purpose of stimulating vigorous root growth - which is exactly what you want to happen with newly planted vegetation.
