This means that instead of whipping out your soldering gun and breadboards, you can simply plug'n'play most of the sensors and output devices (like this LED matrix) on your bot. I love it. To be complete, Makeblock has not taken one route - you can still get to pins and do soldering as you progress. This means that the "Starter" in the Starter Robot name is not a limiting factor. I wanted to get an idea of what my autonomous bot was doing (in terms of the program it was executing) as it traveled around my kitchen, so I added this matrix to output distances and other info. Makeblock does a couple of things (like most makers of sensors and output devices) and supplies both libraries and code samples so you can integrate this right away. They also include 'blocks' to the mBlock visual programming language (based on MIT's Scratch programming language) that make controlling the matrix very easy. You can also, of course, use the matrix to display more 'fun' and creative things, but artsy things elude me. Maybe they are right down your aisle.
