But, as it happened, much of what the author had aimed at was subsequently misunderstood by the readers and leaders who failed to grasp the full implications of his call to cultural creativeness and to return to the true ideology of the Qur'an and Sunnah. Although probably not for the reader wanting to know the basics about Islam--this book is more in depth and detailed, and more for the more knowledgeable reader. Muslims should read this to get a clearer picture of how Western civilization and culture, and the culture of the Islamic Deen, can or should interact. There's so much each culture can gain from each other, without losing the essentials specific to their own beliefs and ways of life. Asad does an excellent job exploring that, and I highly recommend this thoughtful book.
