    What happened???

I bought this book because a different book (McGraw-Hill All-In-One Linux+) I had been using was full of errors, typos and generally appeared as though It never made it through a technical review. Now, I'm just on Chapter 7 of this book and am just flabbergasted... some things are just missed altogether:example:Chapter 7 pages 171 and 172 describe the 'cp' command (used for copying files on mounted file systems) and then the 'scp' command (used for copying files to remote servers through ssh). Then on Page 173, the book discusses 'rsync' and keeps comparing it to the 'copy' command (which doesn't exist). Also, it is as though there was a first draft, edits were submitted but perhaps only partially integrated and then the published product is a hybrid between the two -- but not coherent.example: Chapter 7 page 175 (discussing 'diff' command)"...To see what is different between the two directories today, you would use:# diff -rq /etc /backup/date-etcOnly 2 in etc2: host.confFiles etc/hosts and etc2/hosts differOnly in etc2: java-11-openjdk ...... The returned output lines from the earlier diff command tell you several things about the state of the two locations. The first line says that the hosts.conf file only resides in the date-etc backup directory,..."so at some point someone decided to change the directory from 'etc2' to 'date-etc', but only in the command (not in the output).I've owned this book for a while now, and haven't had a lot of time to dedicate to it. There have been several times I've contemplated writing a review but hadn't. What really gets me is that the publisher's website only has 2 corrections listed for this book -- none of which I've encountered so far. I bet I've encountered more than 30 errors/inconsistencies so far.In fairness, had I bought this book first and then bought the McGraw-Hill book, I'd probably be writing a similar review on that one.Truthfully, I don't know which book is more of a disappointment. I wish Darril Gibson and his team (who writes CompTIA Security+ Get Certified Get Ahead: SY0-501 Study Guide) published a Linux+ book. The quality of those books are on a different level.

Comprehenvise and targeted to exam objectives but...

Comprehensive and targeted specifically for CompTIA's XK-004 exam objectives. I really haven't found any major problems except for Pearson's Test Prep software. You need the Portable Command Guide by William Rothwell in order to properly answer the questions on the test prep. I have come across a couple of errors or typos with specific Q&As and reported it but Pearson is slow in responding and updating obvious typo or error q&a content; replying back with canned "We have forwarded this to the author but it may be a while..." and I'm just thinking "You can see the typo if you actually read the Q&A I reported."

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐

    Read if taking the test.

I am just getting into Linux and got this book and found it to be a little more advance then what I was needing. Had to get another book for beginners to get my base knowledge started. I will return back to this book at a later date.
