I have used broken up Hikari Carnivore and Massivore Pellets in the past. Vibra bites is a better choice and when these cichlids get bigger trasitioning them with those bigger pellets is easy. I have grown HUGE cichlids starting them on Vibra bites which they all aggressively love until they outgrow the size of the worm like food. The common African Jewels love them. I also have grown their bigger cousins also. My favorite cichlids is Hemichromis. Many 7 inch Male Hemichromis Elongatus (the Five Star Generals), 10 inch Frempongis, and a few 11 inch Fasciatus using Vibra bites.
