Why include lower springs if the joint at the base is not adjustable? The modification makes it impossible to sit the base close to the wall or to effectively adjust the overall height or angle of the flex arm. Spend less than $5 more and get a similar lamp that is fully adjustable. You can "re"modify this product by removing a screw and bolt at the base and tighten the two remaining bolts. To keep it from tipping, I added a bit of weight at the rear of the base.
