A: I’m not seeing any place for batteries, so I would say no.

A: It does make some noise, but is far quieter than any other one I've seen.

**Q: What do all these buttons do? The directions are no help at all**
A: Most of the buttons are self explanatory.

A: I order the Dataproducts one. It's number R3027-2. It's come in a two pack. It will say Compatible universal calculator spool.

I love the Casio black adding machine I purchased! It is a nice size. I am used to an office calculator so I didn't want anything small and flimsy. This machine stays put on my desk and is very attractive and easy to use. I am retired now from bookkeeping job but when you are used to quality then you want quality now. It is easy for me to use to balance my checkbook and do any other figuring with. I would definitively recommend this machine!!
