Im at work for long hours without access to a wired or even charger and the case will charge my phone to 100% quickly. The charging feature seems to turn off once the phone battery is fully charged, perhaps as a safety measure, and you can charge the phone and case together or separate. The case is a little heavier than a normal case but its comfortable to hold and isn't an inconvenience or anything.There was an occasion or two where I would turn on the case to charge my phone while in my pocket at work, only to check it later and see that the case shut itself off when the phone wasn't fully charged. That was because pocket dust got between the charging port and my phone. Since I have had it for about 2 weeks, I cannot tell you the battery life although it can easily give you a full charge in a hurry.
