Nice amplifier for a personal sound system. Super efficient. Works with most speakers 4-16 ohm.
I'm using this to replace my desktop speakers with some Klipsch RSX-5 speakers. The speakers are rated for 75 watts so I wasn't entirely sure this would power them sufficiently. It was actually plenty, with good speakers, this can fill a room with a good level of loudness. I was worried about the power draw so I dug up my watt meter and saw it was only using 2.6 watts!!!!!! (now I'm using 1.6 Watts MAX) At this point I was intrigued and I set it up to my two Polk Monitor60 Floorstanders (with 3 6" woofers and a tweeter in each, for a total of 8 speakers, Rated for 150/300 Watts) and it sounded acceptable (drawing like 4 watts), not as good as my $300 receiver, but at 3% the investment and virtually no heat or power use, it is a strong contender. Bass and Treble Boost works but is limited of course. I was going to set this up outside but got distracted and left it sitting on concrete in Florida sun for three hours, it got pretty hot. It still works, but now is makes the speakers make a weird noise when I turn it on (high-pitch low-decibel, not bad, just weird). It wasn't even on, or plugged in... Since it was $10, I don't blame the piece but want to share that experience. Ending statement - Great bargain at $10-12. Though it could power bigger speakers enough to use as a primary system, I wouldn't recommend it, but I will definitely never use a pair of "computer speakers" again, thanks to this. I'll probably buy 2 or 3 more of these for various rooms in my house... I powered my amplifier with a high quality 12v 2a Adapter I got for LED Strip Lighting.

Awesome little amplifier.
Replaced an old DROK Micro Stereo Amplifier that I bought in 2017 that set in my garage and used hard and finally gave out. Used this as soon as I received it with in hour after being place on my doorstep. I resumed my old 12v 2 amp plug and a set of 6ohm Techicns book shelf speakers. It preformed without a hitch in our Texas 90 degree heat with no air flow on it for three days straight. It got warm to the touch but nothing to concerning and I was jamming it pretty loud. I do like the fact that I can adjust the bass and highs, and has great sound. I’m a huge SQ guy and this gets my approval. Hopefully I get 8 years out of it. May purchase their 2.1 later down the road but first need to upgrade my outdoor speakers. Really enjoying this amp and worth the 12 bucks.

Great little amp with one annoying feature (that can be easily fixed)
This is a great little amplifier for under $10, and it works very well except for one minor annoyance that's easily fixed. I have a Kindle Fire hooked to some small speakers (through the headphone jack), and I use it to play rain sounds at night when I go to sleep. The problem is that even at full volume the output of the Kindle just isn't loud enough to hear the rain sounds very well. This little amplifier solved that problem- it's got more than enough power to play the sound as loud as I want. It's easy to hook up and works like a charm to boost the sound. THE ANNOYING FEATURE Several people have mentioned in their reviews that the amp contains a very bright LED behind the volume control, and when the amp is on it cycles through various colors. It's so bright that it would light up part of my room and the changing of the colors was also extremely annoying. If you're experiencing this problem (as others have mentioned in their reviews), there's an easy fix that you can do in about 5 minutes: 1) Unplug ALL the wires and connectors from the amp. 2) Pull the volume knob off (it just pulls straight off, no tools required). 3) Behind the volume knob is a clear plastic piece that's attached to the shaft of the volume control with a small flat nut. With a pair of pliers, gently unscrew and remove the nut. 4) Gently pull the clear plastic piece off. Behind it is the LED that is soooo annoying. 5) Take the clear plastic piece and spray paint the back side of it with some paint. Almost any color will do as long as it's not transparent. Give it a couple of good coats of paint and let it dry. 6) After it's dried, put the plastic piece back in, screw the nut back on, and press the volume control back on the shaft. That's it- problem solved. No more annoying light. :) (Alternatively you could follow the steps to #4 and then paint the LED with some nail polish or dark paint.) I hope this fix helps others. Aside from this one minor annoyance, this is a great amplifier for general use and I wholeheartedly recommend it.

Kinter MA-170E update has Amazing Performance
I received an updated Kinter MA-170 with the E version PWB) (X000C4O79P mfg 13.08.06) which no longer has left and right channels reversed and is no longer inverting. This was ordered without the Zitrades power supply. In addition it has a new IC output chip (TDA 7266) which is direct coupled to the speakers rather than with capacitors. As a result, with the Treble set a maximum, there is little input to output phase distortion in the Treble region. There is no visible zero crossing error. There is still low frequency amplitude distortion. The output negative leads to the speakers cannot be shorted, and therefore some care is required if headphones are to be used. I converted my headphones to keep the return leads separate and it worked fine. The TDA 7266 is heat sinked to the side of the external case instead of the bottom (an easy way to recognize the E version), and no longer distorts (bends) the PWB as a result. The action of the tone controls is still pretty much the same as the MA-170D. Setting the treble to minimum and the Bass to slightly above minimum (the Bass control has a switch action at the lowest setting) achieves the best 1kHz square wave indicating minimal phase and amplitude distortion. Advancing the bass control achieves a room equalization resulting in a gradually decreasing amplitude response with frequency through the treble range. The MA-170E has usable frequency response and Bass Action to 4 hZ (Bass at max, Treble at min, volume about ¼), which is remarkable. You will notice the difference (with the appropriate speakers or headphones) when listening to material which is bass heavy such as the Pirates of the Caribbean. This is an improvement over the MA-170D which is capacitor coupled and has response to 17 Hz. For me the MA-170E allows low level listening with minimal irritation. Using a 1 amp 12 volt switching power supply puts noise on the output and causes the amplifier to shut down at about 4 volts peak to peak output or about 1/4 watt out RMS into 8 ohms. The power is not an issue with headphones but the noise is. Use of this amplifier with the Zitrades 12 Volt power source is recommended to minimize noise and avoid shut down.

Better sounding than the Lepai lp-808 *BUT*
While this unit sounds pretty great there are issues: others say it limits bass... Around 60 hz then down a few db by 50 hz. I think they are right. The tone control , esp. The treble, operates over a very limited range of the dial, basically it is all boosted up at only a eighth of a turn. But it limits like an old cheap tube amp: in a way that is good to listen to, the old adage of subtractive issues being better than additive ones being true as always here. So why only three stars? At this price it's the cheapest full integrated amp I have ever seen. I payed 4.95 or 5.95, making it almost half as cheap as the lp-808, which was the previous price champ. ( don't get me wrong, I think only a little grain and falseness make the Lepai second to this in sound. If crisp treble and bass extension matter more to you then midrange sweetness then the Lepai is the winner - I like the sound of the Lepai. And this. But...) So the but. It does in fact pop on off and on like the others say. Just as one said, with my speakers I don't THINK it's going to destroy my tweeter but more sensitive speakers - over 98db/ watt - well DO NOT TURN THIS OFF without unplugging the speaker wires first - even turning the volume down all the way won't help. I hear about Klipsch owners using this type of amp. Stay away from this one or else be super careful. I'm sure it would pop a tweeter blow it right on out if it were 99 db or so.... This is the cheapest, but the Lepai lp 2020a+ is the low price sound champ at 25$ The lp 808 is great at eight. Right now I am listening to the stellar labs portable t amp. I think it's about the same as the 2020. It has headphone jack but no tone control. It also has built in battery compartments for eight aa batts. I am using it that way now and it can drive my psb alpha b1 speakers quite quite loud. As loud and louder than I can stand (easily 101 PLUS - that's where I called quits, not the amp - db at one meter or two. )and it can drive hard to drive phones with aplomb, making it an exceptional portable headphone amp as well. Plus the built in Batt compartment neatens things for hobby uses cabins cars camping grilling whathaveyou It is thirty bucks. But if you just want a toy , buy the Lepai lp 808. Better tone control , as good , brighter sound. If you must buy this, if like me you just wanna hear it fer yer five bucks, go ahead. It's a cool amp, mostly . Just unplug the speaker wires, or be sorry. For me, that not unacceptable , but it sure sucks. 2 stars. Sound quality four stars. So three overall. BE CAREFUL.

Stands shoulder to shoulder with its peers
Nice little amp. I should admit immediately that I am addicted to these small amplifiers. I have many from various manufacturers from all over the world. These amps have a million uses because of their size. An obvious one would be to hook it to a computer and use some nice bookshelf size speakers for your PC sound as opposed to the junk one usually uses for computer audio. But the uses do not stop there by a long shot. Because it comes with "ears," it is ready to mount anywhere. Under a kitchen cupboard, on the back of a headboard for bedroom TV sound, I even have one inside my bathroom vanity for shower tunes. Most people don't understand "watts," because, frankly, manufacturers lie about wattage. They either list only "output watts," a measurement that has to do with electricity, not audio, or have slick terms like "music watts," "real watts," or "listening watts." These mean nothing. "RMS Watts" is the true, scientific measurement of audio wattage. The real RMS watt numbers listed in the description of this item seem low compared to the lies of dishonest sellers. For example, 50 watts RMS in a house or home, at full volume, is LOUD. Too loud to have a conversation over and loud enough to cause hearing damage for prolonged periods. When you see an ad for an amp that has 100 watts of power per channel and is the size of an asprin boittle- it's not 100wx2ch. Sorry... but it just isn't. Refreshingly, this seller has decided to tell you the truth. This is an 8 watt RMS amp- 4 watts per channel. Guess what? In a normal sized room in a house, that's loud. Turn it all the way up and you'll annoy someone else in your house. I also like that the audio quality measurements are included in the description (Min. THD: <0.005%70dB). The seller has made no bones about what this product is and what it is not. I know prices change, but I got mine for under $10 including shipping and that's still a steal for what you'll receive when you buy this amp. The uses are endless. Since it is powered by a 12V 2A power source, it can be fed by battery pretty easily with minimum know how and some internet research. I can see this unit being part of a portable DIY sound system- easily. For instance, wired correctly, an 8AA battery pack could run this amp, probably for 8-10 hours. So basically, anywhere this amp can fit, it can be used. Like I said, I have many like this one. Some are better, some are useless. A good comparison is the Lepai 2020+. That is a very popular amp a tad bigger than this amp with much more power (20 watts RMS per channel). I like that amp, but if I didn't need REAL LOUD, I'd go with this one at half the price, on average. I have another amp I will not name that is very similar to this one in appearance and description. A deceptive description that claimed 15 watts RMS per channel: a lie. This 4 watt per channel amp walks all over that other deceptive amp. I appreciate the quality, the honesty, the speed of delivery and the "get exactly what is described" way this amp is sold and used. I like it a lot. Sure, there are better. Not for $10. Not this size. Not this rugged. Not this adaptable. Not with so many uses. This thing is top of the heap for its size and price, hands down. One last thing. This amp comes without the power supply. This is really upsetting for a lot of people. It's also standard in the audio world. The power supply is your responsibility. It keeps costs down to NOT ship a heavy power supply (probably weighs as much or more than the item itself) across the ocean. And guess what? The needed supply is probably already in your house somewhere. They do send along the proper END to attach to a power supply. When I say power supply, I mean you'll need a "wall wart," one of those black box plugs that is on just about everything small with some power. They all have numbers on the back that look like Greek to the uninitiated. It's simple for this item. You look for the OUTPUT number and you need one that says "12V 2A." Sometimes it will say "12V 2000mA," which is the same. (mA = MILLIAMPS; 2000 MILLIAMPS is equal to 2 AMPS) Look around your basement or attic for old stuff that plus in. I bet you'll find one. This sort of thing is a deal breaker for many people. Many people do not want "extra work" or "parts missing" with anything they buy. To say that parts are missing isn't really accurate. The seller is doing what most amp module sellers do- leaving the power supply up to the buyer. It's industry practice, not just to save costs, but because a buyer can elect to give the amp more power or less power than recommended. I do not recommend either. 12V 2A is perfect for this unit. That covers everything. Now I think I'll put a few more of these in my cart...

Powerful enough
First off, things I dislike: The stupid color-changing LED is annoying if this thing is anywhere you can see it. The speaker terminals are mounted tab-down, making use difficult if you have this mounted to something. The volume knob is too easy to accidentally adjust. The front panel is slightly off-center in relation to the circuit board. There's no heatsink on the amp IC. So why did I give it 5 stars? This thing is the same price as a burrito and has way more than enough power to drive my 3" desktop "monitors". I bought this to replace the innards of my Behringer MS-20 2x10W "near field monitors." I didn't like that the electronics of the Behringer system were so hot, heavy and power hungry, and I don't need any of the digital inputs. So I ripped all that out and plopped this bad boy on top. Sounds fine. People complain that it doesn't come with a power supply, but honestly that's one of the best features in my opinion. Do you really want the cheapest possible power supply crammed in there with your audio amplifier? Didn't think so. There's a nice beefy cap in there to provide enough power smoothing for anyone but audiophiles who wouldn't buy this thing anyway. In short, this little dude delivers a lot of performance for the price point. My only other complaint is that if I turn the volume knob past 1/3, a mysterious, irregular knocking/banging sound starts at the ceiling and walls of my apartment, and eventually makes its way to my front door. I'm sure I'll figure out what that is eventually. Disclaimer: I'm not an audio enginerd, just a normal dude who wants music at his desk to not sound tinny.

Great for the money if your expectations are reasonable
I bought this as basically a small form factor Aux input with a volume knob for a classic car that i didn't like the factory radio location in. This thing is $10 with no power plug and $16 with. How about neither? I opened it up and desoldered the jack and hardwired a power and ground wire to it. I also wanted to screw it to the bottom of something instead of the top of something, but then all the labels would be upside down so i took it out of the case and flipped the guts. This required drilling two holes in the side of the case to bolt the heat sink for the amp chip to the case, since it's now on the other side (and left two empty existing holes). I also just ordered a female 3.5mm panel mount plug (a 5pack actually, the more you spend the more you save! wait..) which i'll mount above the treble knob and hardwire. The only real purpose of that in a car is that if someone kicks or snags the input cable it'll (probably...) pull out instead of wrecking the back of the board and the rca jacks which are on the back panel. As far as power, it doesn't have much. It works ok and is as good (for 2 channels, anyway) as a cheap automotive head unit. It does put signal noise out, though. Not bad when powering speakers directly but if you are, like me, perhaps unwisely using it as a speaker level input to a real amplifier, it is noticeable. I do find the color changing LED a little obnoxious, as other reviewers have mentioned. Since i had the thing out of its case i noticed that the LED is on a fairly long set of leads and is simply bent into place near the front panel to illumunate the knobs. I bent it as far away as it would go and it is much less annoying, but i still wish i could easily pick a single color and stick to it. Maybe i can and i just didn't look at the board hard enough. Anyway, for $9? Yeah, it's cool. Just go in with reasonable expectations.

Does the job for less $
I purchased this for a mod of a Street Fighter II Arcade 1Up cabinet - adding a Raspberry Pi 3B+ - as it requires an amp for sound. It works great, although I was expecting it to have a 3.5mm plug (1/8th Headphone jack input) but it doesn’t. But that’s MY fault for not paying attention even though the Amazon listing had GREAT pix. It has RCA inputs. Luckily (and inexplicably!) I had an RCA to 3.5 mm cable lying around. But just know that going in. It has a decent sound (currently mono as I’m only using the one A1Up speaker) and a nice LED light that I’ll never see. It’s light weight and so far, no complaints! Works great!
