In practice this translates in a couple of seconds in quicker cutting on an average limb. For me, being a horticulturalist it's worth it. For you it may not be. I use the medium for general use and the large toothed for larger limbs. I also have a fine toothed blade for delicate tasks. For me, the nuances of pruning require more precision in the use of tools/blades. **Q: What is the best silky saw for cutting bone for hunting?** A: Saws with medium teeth work best. We have found the GomBoy 121-21 works best (ASIN B000CEAX8S). **Q: how long is it when folded?** A: It fits in typical pocket sticking out just slightly. It cuts like butter, rarely need to put much effort into it, the handle is comfortable and blade folds down neatly, sometimes find it difficult to find the 'sweet spot' where the 'folding action' isn't too tight or too loose, but this really doesn't detract from the amazing quality this saw is. Nice addition of the plastic 'pouch' keeps it dry and safe.
