The kit includes multiple mouthpieces, a premium storage case, and free software compatible with Windows and Mac for tracking and sharing results with healthcare providers.

## Description

Product description This device is used to measure Peak Expiratory Flow (PEF) and Forced Expiratory Volume in 1-second (FEV1) in both children and adults. Doctors can have patients monitor changes in airflow and record the results at home using the Microlife Peak Flow Meter. Patients can send results via PDF or CSV to their healthcare provider by using the included software. Connect via USB to use the free Microlife Asthma Analyzer Software to View, Track, and Share Results. Compatible with both Mac and Windows PC. Who should use this meter? Asthmatics Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Other Respiratory Problems Athletes Superior digital accuracy Accuracy: Superior to mechanical methods, digital peak flow meters provide an exact reading, avoiding any accidental mistakes. The meter measures the flow rate at one hundredths of a liter per minute, and the results are automatically recorded. Consistent and accurate readings will improve your ability to accurately assess your condition. Memory: Automatically stores 240 readings The highest reading from each session is automatically stored, allowing you to test multiple times and record your best result. Reports show that patients who measure and record their readings are better able to monitor and manage their conditions. Peak Flow and FEV1 tracking software Connect your meter to your PC and automatically download your readings. With the user friendly analysis software, you can chart your progress print graphs make notes about your symptoms or triggers export your results to a spreadsheet share your result with your health care provider Use & Care How to take a measurement Step 1: Standing up, hold the peak flow meter as shown with both hands. Step 2: Take a deep breath and blow into the mouthpiece as hard as you can for as long as possible. Step 3: As you exhale, bend forward as shown to push all the air from your lungs. Step 4: Measure your peak flow rate twice daily and close to the same time each day. Complete instructions in English/Spanish included. How does the risk indicator work? Whether you are using national standards, or your own customized numbers, the green, yellow and red bars on the display are a quick visual reference to show how your results compare. As your peak flow raises or lowers, the arrow on the display will show the measurement as within the normal (green), borderline (yellow) or in the danger (red) range. What do the colors mean? Green = 80% or higher than your personal best Yellow = 60 - 79% of your personal best Red = 50 - 59% of your personal best How do I clean my monitor? Simply separate the mouthpiece and measuring tube from the meter, then clean the parts with soap & warm water. Air dry. Removable mouthpiece Designed for all ages, this monitor comes with 3 color coded mouthpieces. Use them to monitor yourself and your child, or rotate them between uses for cleaning. The Microlife Digital Peak Flow Meter with FEV1 is the doctor's choice for managing diseases that restrict lung performance. This advanced meter for spirometry includes a digital diary and measures air flow velocity and volume (FEV1) to indicate early warning signs for impending asthmatic incidents or conditions. Using these measurements in conjunction with a doctor's consultation allows patients with asthma, COPD and other lung diseases to manage their condition. What is PEF: PEF is Peak Expiratory Flow, or in other words measures how fast you can push air out of your lungs. What is FEV: FEV is Forced Expiratory Volume, or in other words measures how much air a person can exhale during a forced breath. Specifications

Review: It actually works :) - This meter works very well. I bought it for a friend of mine, because of the fact it has the Peak Flow measurement(large airway) and the FEV1 Measurement (small airways). Although this is not as good as the spirometry units pulmonologists have, this unit is portable, and can be used anywhere. You no longer need to go to your pulmonologist every week to see if your medication/lifestyle changes are working for you now. You can track your readings using the software they sell at the site (this unit does not come with it) and you can take the print out to your doctor after 256 measurements. It really helps to give peace of mind, and to see if you are actually improving or getting worse in certain environments, at certain times, after a cold, flu or bronchitis. You can use it anytime as much as you want, that is the best thing about it. I do not know about the actual accuracy of the calibration, but my friend says that the Peak flow of this unit is inline with other meters, and it is pretty close to the FEV1 readings of the Hospital Models. You can always take it with you to your doctors when you have a spirometry test and then use it there to see how far off it is anyway. It is great to have all the readings there stored in the unit at your fingertips without having to write down the time and date and readings. Just make sure you upload it to your computer before you get to the limit or it erases your initial measurements The unit is great.
Review: Great product! Carrying case, Mac app, export to PDF/CSV, nice pro medical package - WOW, I read the good reviews but.. WOW. I love when a medical device really lives up to what you expect, and goes beyond! It comes with a nice heavy duty cloth carry case w/ 2 zippered compartments: one for the manual and paper medical records, extra mouth pieces (green and orange in addition to the attached blue), and the USB cable for software interface; the second larger compartment for the device. Comes with two AAA batteries too. Easy to install. Setting up time is easy too. Remove a cover to access the time editor, then set date/time elements, using a paperclip to press a button. Easy enough. Note that the month/day appear in Euro style, DD/MM (vs USA MM/DD). OR you can use software to set it! VERY COOL! The product mentions software for PC... but the company has an app for the Mac too. It's called Microlife Asthma Analyzer+, free on the App store. Setup a profile using an email address... but it actually stores locally and doesn't use the email. When you connect, it will notice your date is not sync'd, and offer to sync it from your Mac. VERY COOL. After using the product, you can view the data, PEF and FEV1 in charts, or EXPORT to CSV (for data points) or PDF (printable color copy of the chart). Use a sync button (two arrows, top right) to pull data from the device. To use, it's important to know that you BEGIN by pressing the big button, WAIT for the beep, then exhaling gently, THEN put your mouth on the device BEFORE doing a big inhale... THEN exhale as fast as you can. It helps to purse your lips a bit. The idea on the inhale AND exhale is that you're letting it get a good measure of volume. After one reading, wait between 2-30 seconds (max) and repeat... then do the same for a third time. The system will save the highest readings of the three. The SOFTWARE will also use your first set of readings to determine your BASELINE. That way the green/yellow/red areas reflect how well your future readings match up to that baseline. This is useful if you can set up a baseline when you are breathing well, and then the yellow/red will just warn you if you're dipping too low below that baseline. OR you can use their charts (or online charts or a number provided by your physician) to SET your BASELINE. You can set that up in the software, with the device connected, and it will update the device. That way your readings will show green/yellow/red based on that number. This is useful if you are already having breathing issues (asthma, COPD, heart-related respiratory or post-COVID issues), to know how bad your breathing is, and have a good idea when it's probably time to see a doctor (if it dips into the red). Again, VERY COOL. So overall, I absolutely recommend this device! I'm so impressed that I'm looking into what else they offer. It's hard to find consumer medical products that are so well designed and operate well too. Microlife truly scored "11" out of 10 on this one.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does the free downloadable software work on a Mac?**
A: It does not work on MAC. But you must purchase and attempt download to discover this. Would be nice to know before purchasing since this was a primary reason for selecting this device.

**Q: What is the diameter of the mouth piece ? can a disposable mouth piece fit on it ?**
A: The mouthpiece has an outside diameter of 1.210 inches, and an inside diameter 0.985 inches. The flow meter kit I received came with three mouthpieces; one blue, one green and one purple. The manual has instructions for cleaning the mouthpiece after each use.

**Q: What is the highest reading fpr the microlife?**
A: One reading seems never to exceed 100 and hovers near 60 and the other never exceeds 1.0 and hovers near .8 for me.

**Q: Does this product include the factory analysis USB cable?**
A: Obsolete USB? Yes. But no USB to USB-C adapter.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works for me. Maybe now I'll actually stick to the routine my Doctor wants.
*by G***G on January 6, 2013*

Prior to ordering one of these you should know the difference between a Spirometer and a Peak Flow Meter. A Spirometer measures the total volume of air that can be exhaled or inhaled. It can also measure the rate at which a certain volume of air is expelled from the lungs. A Peak Flow Meter, on the other hand, only measures the rate at which air is forced out of the lungs. This is known as the peak expiratory flow. Some reviews here seem to have the two confused so I wanted to get that out of the way. I have a manual Peak Flow Meter from the Doctor and never used it much for my Asthma. Needed to use up some FSA money before the end of the year and this item fit the bill as the price was just right. The item arrived with the box containing everything that comes with the item (USB cable, batteries, spare mouth pieces, directions and a nifty carrying case). The included directions are good enough to setup and operate the device. I downloaded the software from Microlife's website for free, installed it on a Windows XP Computer without issue (I think the software supports later versions). The software is able to communicate with the unit and pull the readings. Setting up the software only involves creating a "Patient" by inputting some information. You can create multiple patients which is cool because any device of this type at this price point usually doesn't support multiple users. So while it's cumbersome using this device along with the software it's possible to save readings for multiple patients. The software allows for printing graphs or just the data so I can take them to my doctor's appointments as he's always asking me if I use a Peak Flow Meter and what are the readings. You can also export the data to a CSV (Comma, Separated Value) file. This brings up an important point. All Peak Flow Meters are designed to aid in the diagnosing and treatment of a respiratory illness. Which means you should be seeing a doctor to help interrupt the results and plan your treatment. I took several readings with this meter then several with the manually operated one the doc gave me and they were very close so I have confidence this device is working as intended. All in all I am happy with my purchase. I refrained from rating it 5 stars as anything can be improved upon. Asthma or COPD cannot be cured but effectively managed. This device does what it's supposed to do and aids in that.
