I got hold of a gallon some time ago, and painted my cellar window covers, which were beginning to rust, and now, 8 years later, they still look good. So I decided to buy this, in black, to repaint the wrought iron on my garden gate. I've used the spray paint brand that we all know and love, but on wrought iron, that wears off. This must be brushed on, and since it's oil based, it's hard to clean off your hands (and just lose the painting clothes if you make a mistake there), but the stuff really works. It is my understanding that Hammerite encapsulates whatever rust has started to form, so it can't bleed through and cause your metal to continue to rust, and that seems to be the case with my window covers.
