Hooks just hang on the piece, like a coat hanger on a rail You need to drill two holes in your wall at precisely the right level and distance from one another, insert the plastic wall anchors, turn the screws into the anchors, and then position the piece over those two screws, with great precision - in order for the screws to be hidden behind the piece and not be visible from the front (apparently). It's not as simple as drilling the screw through a hole in the front -- there's a pencil and a ruler required, which is a pain in the butt. I didn't like this unit at all. I received the parts to hang with screws not adhesive which I prefer. Smaller than I expected, but it serves it's purpose to get my mail when my roommates check it and I'm not home. They can put my mail in it so it is very convenient. The little hooks aren't really functional; more for astetics I think. I can hang my sunglasses on them, but if I use them often they can fall off. You can clamp them down tighter with pliars I guess. Overall the product is fine. Seems a bit flimsy in construction.
