## Description

For Windows Vista/XP

Review: Tomb Raider Underworld- First Impressions - I remember playing all the old Tomb Raider games and I really enjoyed them. However I haven't played some of the later games because they just weren't as good as the beginning ones. Now I can say that Lara is truly back and the game is terrific. The graphics are much improved and Lara is quite the hot chick. Controls are easy to use on the PC and you can turn on aids that help you use the right ones. The puzzles make you think but are not too difficult. If you've played the old TR games then they shouldn't be too hard to figure out. However if you've never played any of her games then they might seem difficult. The treasures that Lara finds are so far not hidden and are out in the open, unless of course there are some I haven't found. This is one of the complaints I had about the game that the treasures are all the same and the game doesn't tell you what you found. The AI could be tweaked some more because the enemies don't really come at you aggressively. If you lay back they leave you alone and there are some areas where they won't follow you. Also, so far using a Windows Vista Quad Chip and a Nvidia 8500gt, the game did crash twice which surprised me since the game had been up to then very stable and easy to use. The puzzles could have been a little harder to solve but you do have to think about ways to do things. There are no issues with DRM and the game automatically resumes to the last game saved. All in all a very good game that relates to the Lara of the past. A definite buy. After playing the game for a few days now I have to say that it is better than I thought it would be. There are some obstacles I had trouble figuring out and had to go to a website for help. I noticed that there were quite a few people who were stumped. Also there are some controls that you have to learn how to master. So it's not that easy which makes the game even better and more challenging. I'm really enjoying it.
Review: A pretty good TR game for the DS. - Tomb Raider: Underword is a pretty good game for the DS. It's much better than the DS version of Tomb Raider: Legend. In Underworld, Lara is 3D modeled (in Legend she's only a series of flat sprites) and her animations are done very well. Navigating the environments is satisfying because the controls are good and responsive. Combat too is handled well in this game. Lara can lock-on, jump over enemies, slide under them, and do melee attacks. Lara can discover artifacts, but unfortunately all the artifacts are the same object. She can also find treasure chests. A puzzle must be solved to open them, and every puzzle solved unlocks items in the extra menu. Overall it's a good game, but there are a few problems. For one, the game is too dark. Even with the brightness turned all the way up, this game is difficult to see unless you're playing it in a dark room. I don't understand why the developer made the game so dark, because this wasn't an issue with the DS version of Tomb Raider: Legend. Another thing to point out: about half of this game is loading screens. There are a lot of them and they are long. The game even has to load a single screen with nothing but stats on it. It's annoying, yes, but I guess that's the price we pay for a game to look good on the DS. Another minor annoyance I have with the game has to do with the level stats. When you go to select a level to replay, it shows you how many of the artifacts you have found in the level, but it doesn't show you whether or not you have found the treasure chest. You do find this out at the end of the level (on a stats screen that takes 20 seconds to load), but it would be nice to know this during level selection so I can focus on what I haven't found yet. This game is an abbreviated version of Underworld. It does not contain all the cutscenes in the original game, and in some levels Lara has completely different objectives. But I think Santa Cruz Games did a pretty good job on this game. I would love to see a "remastered" version of this game on a more powerful handheld console.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ EVEN BETTER THAN TOMB RAIDER 2013!
*by U***K on March 27, 2014*

This installment in the Tomb Raider series was, for me, more demanding and much more expansive than TOMB RAIDER 2013, although that game, too, was superlative and very difficult. twists and turns of plot abounded throughout the game, but the player finally gets an idea who's behind all of the evil when he reaches the ship full of cargo labeled: ATLA. The hardest parts of this game were the timed sequences which caused one to want to pull his hair out! The graphics, for 2008, were extremely well done, and my hat is off to EIDOS and its superb staff of engineers, testers, production people, graphics, voice and music divisions for a job done far beyond the call of duty. Lara was beautiful, as she was in TR 2013, and she could really jump, evade, grapple, swing and kill off enemies. This game was very tastefully done, with no excessive gore or blood and no brutality. It was done the way games should be done, and I only wish there were more Tomb Raider games available. Right now, all I have left to play in this genre are LARA CROFT AND THE GUARDIAN OF LIGHT, which I don't care for due to camera angles and other problems which I won't get into, and TOMB RAIDER: LEGEND. And, although the graphics in LEGEND are all right, it seems to be missing the mystery and pizzazz of UNDERWORLD and 2013. These games (TR UNDERWORLD and TR 2013) were the greatest I have ever played, and I recommend them highly to anyone who cares to "take the plunge."
