## Description

Costume includes: Dress with Armband

Review: With a few adjustments, perfect Spartan Queen dress!! - First thing that stood out, as a few other reviewers have said, great thick quality material (yes, you need to wear nude undies as it is white after all and a little see thru on the bum). Also agree the waist is snug- too snug for me, but, I fixed that. (I'm a petite, size 4, 6ish) By snipping the inside of the white band/waistline on either end as it meets the black and gold, then reaching in and cutting the elastic, on either end, I was able to pull it right out. I thought I may have needed to add something else as it would be too loose- not at all, it fit me just right and now sits lower on the hips. The material where the elastic was looks a little wonky, but, that can be ironed down smooth. The other adjustments that need doing- as other reviewers had said, the torso section is too short. As in the distance between the two black and gold bands is too small- the gap shown in between the panels on the stomach in the picture here- not really something that shows. If you pull the halter portion up and tie it to be nice and supportive, it pulls the waist up too high. If you put the waist where it should be, creates an awkward chestage area. So, I cut it- where the stomach sections meet the black and gold waist band, essentially making two pieces- the skirt (now sitting on the waist) and a halter with the two pieces dropped down- I then cut those off and will add back two longer white panels to go from the top to the bottom to keep the look. One last adjustment- the Spartan queen look is meant to be spare strips of material covering the chest, for a minimalist look (Queen Gorgo, "300"). As much as it's nice coverage on this dress, it's too close together at the cleavage part- loses that Greek/Roman look. So, I carefully snipped some thread to pull the white cloth a bit further apart, creating that plunge- making the gold band look as if it's an independent piece. The arm band fit me just right- will probably use fashion tape to make sure it stays the night I wear it. Overall, yes, seems like a lot of adjustments, but, for the price, tailoring it a bit, still worth it. If cutting and tailoring make you nervous, have sew savvy friend so it or take to a tailor. I may even change the tie area(s) to leather, chain or something more authentic looking!! (I've apparently seen too many "300" pics of Lena Headey!) Length, a wee long, side parts touched ground with heels on, but, I like the effect (I'm 5'1"). Pairing with Rubie's Costume Goddess Sandals, Gold, medium, that I ordered from desertcart and reviewed those as well. (Also, added front slit to dress also to show off those great shoes)
Review: Simple yet stylish - The California Costumes Women's Spartan Queen outfit worked great! It also arrived a day earlier than expected which was wonderful since I had gotten a costume earlier from a different website that didn't fit and didn't have much time to find a new one before the costume party I was to attend. I paired the dress with some gold: nail polish, bracelets, earrings and a large necklace. Lots of compliments. Ok, about the costume: it is heavier nylon-ish fabric as indicated by other reviewers. The lower band around the waist was a little tight (also as indicated by other reviewers). I am 5'3 and 105 lbs, I ordered the small. The elastic waist fit fine if I didn't wear it on my hips...but I wanted it on the hips (looks better) so I just cut a little bit of the elastic in the back of the dress (I un-stitched the fabric a little to access the elastic). Cutting it a little was good enough to sit comfortably on the hips, although my intention is to add ~an inch sometime in future, we shall see. If I had worn my medium height gold sandal heals with the dress it would not have been too short (about the length of that shown in the picture), the dress hung just below the ground with bare feet. I kept with the bare feet b/c it was my party so I didn't have to drive anywhere. The arm band was WAY too big for my arm, I used double sided tape to make it fit my arm, although safety pins would have worked too. Also, as indicated by other reviewers, it will be difficult to wear a bra with the dress since the back is completely open except for the halter tie around the neck and a ~1 inch tie around the middle of the back. A bra strap would probably not fit under the tied strip b/c the fabric there is extremely thin, not like the rest of the costume and when it ties it is not wide enough for a bra strap. The chest area in the front had a good amount of extra room, would work for someone w/C or maybe D sized tatas depending on your frame. My B grade ones were a little lost at first but that was fixed by tying the halter a little tighter, because of how the fabric is bunched/gathered in that area I got away without a bra just fine. Overall, I would recommend this costume, it is simple, does not look as cheap as some other costumes, a good price (can't beat $20), okay fit and good shipping speed (shipped to MD). It was a real hit.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How true to size? Any measurements available? I’m in between a sm/med.**
A: Go one size up from what you would order at Nordstroms. We love the costume.

**Q: Can this be worn as a khaleesi costume from game of thrones?**
A: Probably

**Q: Is this a halter back dress?**
A: Yes it is a halter back dress.

**Q: The dress in the video isnt the one in the photo ...so which is the one on offer?**
A: You get the dress in the photo (weird about the video). However, the slit between the two bands doesn’t part to show skin like the picture shows. I will be cutting mine to make it like the picture. It’s quite long so you’d need to wear heels unless you’re 5’10”

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Looks better in the picture
*by P***R on October 25, 2011*

OK, I understand it is just a halloween costume and I paid under $30. So I did get what I paid for and I shouldn't complain. I wanted to leave some information so others can make their own judgement. I am 5'9 and 115 and bought a size small. This hits the top of my ankles when I wear high heels, nothing hits the ground. It does fit snug and the elastic will give additional room as needed. However the fabric (polyester) is stiff and does not "flow". It is thick-ish (is that a word?)and the bodice is double layered for modesty, wearing a bra may be tricky unless you don't care if the back strap shows. And speaking of modesty, unlike the picture, there is no spacing in between the two panels of fabric that cover the front bodice. Kinda takes away the whole peek-a-boo aspect of the costume I was looking forward to. The two draping panels, because the fabic is stiff do not, will not, lie (lay? I forgot my grammar) flat in the picture but instead bow out like two sails in the wind. The oppostie of sexy. I'll still wear this, my friends didn't see the picture on Amazon that made me buy it and if all goes well, I am going to have a great time no matter what I am wearing. So I gave it four stars being that it is under $30, made well and still a bargain.
