It wont filter anything without the black box. You can detach the foundation tube or just turn the pressure off to that, if you just want the filter working though. **Q: How do you turn the light on** A: It comes on automatically but you can’t see it until it’s dark . It’s not a very strong light. **Q: Can I use the filter without the fountain just using the one plug . Can I remove the fountain completely leaving hole in the filter?** A: One plug is for the pump and the other is for the UV light. The filter box is ineffective if the pump doesn't run. Because the water won't flow through the filter box. **Q: Could anyone please tell me how long the lead is?** A: About 4metres, I was surprised there are two cables. From having a pure green pond that I couldn't see anything to crystal clear water within 3 days. The fountain is a really nice touch however I would really hope for a longer piece of tubing for the deeper end of my pond.The down side to this product though... The product did such an amazing job that because my water was so crystal.
