Review: Best Pill Cutter - I'm an APRN, not that we use pill cutters at work, but I've used many of the typical single blade tab splitters over the past 30 years and have had to deal with this issue with hundreds of patients when dose is reduced. They work well for most tabs but small or very hard tabs can be problematic. I recently started a new unscored medication that was extremely problematic so I had to seek a solution. I have to press very hard compared to other pills but this device splits it perfectly with none of the powder splinterings. Given the amount of pressure I have to apply with this device, it's no wonder that my single blade was destroying it. I think this is probably the best pill splitter ever made. You're probably wondering like I was if it's worth the extra price given you can get one for like $4. For me, it was absolutely worth it. The only error you could experience is from not centering the pill correctly. Perhaps some elderly or anyone with dexterity issues may have more difficulty vs. a single blade where you just shove the pill to the top of the triangle. I have found it quite easy to center. I rarely leave reviews but this is a genius design that I feel is a real innovation for this class of product. I will be recommending this to my patients as well moving forward.
Review: Built so well, aliens or archeologists will find it far in the future... but there is a 'flaw' - This thing is terrific engineering and good machining! It's a nice and simple design, little to go wrong, and highly effective and elegant even. The one 'downside' -- when you fumble around a little bit (you'll learn) to open it, be careful with the blades and the real 'fault' in my eyes is when in the open position (to cut), there is an opening in the back of the tray so IF you were to leave other pills in there that were already cut, they could fall out. This is just me being exacting... not much that could be done about it without adding complications which would be unwanted by me. All said, this is the ONLY pill cutter I will ever need for the rest of my life. It's not going to shatter, rust, or be destroyed in any other way! Someone knocked this one out of the park, I'd actually like to see what else this person (if a single person designed this) has designed.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How does this compare to Equadose (Equaxdose)? Thanks**
A: 1- The EqualSplit is ⅔’s the cost of the Equaxdose
2- Pretty much identical devices
3- Neither works as a pill splitter

The issue with this design is placing the pill, any pill, into the jaws and centering it there. Then remove fingers and clamp the unit shut before the pill moves. It is difficult to do, and impossible to do quickly, made even worse if you have any hand arthritis or shaking. If you’re splitting a week or so’s worth of more than one medication at a time, this will drive you nuts and take much, much longer to do than with the more traditional V-groove razor blade cutter at less than $5. I so wanted a better way to do this mandatory task...both EqualSplit and Equadose are not the solution and are in fact harder and slower.

**Q: Can this pill cutter cut pills into fourths?**
A: Yes! It cuts into 1/4's with ease! Mine just arrived today and I'm actually sad I ran out of pills to cut. Every single pill cut clean and accurately. The snap sound when it cuts is a satisfying ASMR bonus. My pills are pretty small and all other cutters I tried turned the 1/2's into a single usable 1/4 and the remainder was crumbles/dust. This one works so well for 1/4's, zero waste. Highly recommend.

**Q: Why is this particular pill splitter, manufactured by the same company, $10 cheaper than its counterpart with blue cover?**
A: I assume your "blue cover" pill splitter that you are referring to is the Equadose Pill Splitter; I haven't personally tried it, but the physics of the Equadose is different than this EqualSplit Pill Splitter. You can see that the top of the EqualSplit device slides up and down in a parallel fashion while the Equadose has a pivot point on the side. I can't image that the Equadose can work as well because of the unequal lateral force vectors compared to the linear force vectors of the EqualSplit device. Can that justify a higher price for a device that seems fundamentally flawed? I don't know. I do know that the EqualSplit Pill Splitter works extremely well so paying any more for anything that, at best, can work as well, seems foolish. JMO.

**Q: Is this dishwasher safe?**
A: I don't know for sure but I would think it would go through the dishwasher. Nothing seems to be glued or soft plastic. It's very sturdy.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best Pill Cutter

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Easier to make precise cuts, no crumbling
*by Z***Z on February 10, 2021*

My dog needs a quarter of a pill of anti-seizure medicine (Keppra) three times a day. Before buying the EqualSplit, I had borrowed a couple of different pill splitters from my mom: one that can do multiple pills at once using a single blade pressed down from the top, and also the EquaDose, which is more similar to this EqualSplit cutter. The EqualSplit has both of the other cutters beat. I tried the multi-pill cutter first, but it caused a lot of crumbling of the pill. Not only is that bad medically with this medicine (it will be metabolized too quickly if it's crushed) it's just a pain in the butt to deal with the dust. Next we tried the EquaDose, and that was much better. Kind of fiddly to get the pill aligned in it so you can cut it straight down the middle; the rotational movement of the cutter means you have to put the pill at an angle to get the blades to make contact at the halfway point on each side. But with two blades coming at the pill from opposite directions, at least the pill didn't crumble like it did with the other one. Then, I bought the EqualSplit. It has all of the positive attributes of the EquaDose, and fewer drawbacks. The linear rather than rotational movement of the blades makes it much easier to line up the pill for an even cut. And the depth of the pocket is a little greater than the EquaDose, which means I can actually close the lid before cutting these large pills, even with the pills on their sides rather than flat. But I can also lay the pill flat with this cutter and still have confidence that I'm making a precise cut. With the EquaDose, I always cut across the shortest dimension of the pill, so that it wouldn't have to be at as much of an angle to get the halves to be even--which meant I couldn't close the lid when cutting these large pills, and had to use my other hand to keep pill pieces from flying. None of that is an issue with the EqualSplit. I never encountered this problem myself, but my mom has had the same problem with the EquaDose as some reviewers of that product have mentioned: fingers getting pinched when you squeeze it, on the side opposite the hinge. I would not think this cutter would cause similar problems, since it isn't a hinged movement. Overall I'm very pleased, having using this cutter once or twice a day for a week, after months of the same schedule with the EquaDose. It's less expensive, too!
