Throw in the fact that the eldest one is 18 and has ASD and you have a rollercoaster ride. The boys' bunk bed consists of a single top bunk, and a double bottom bunk, and privacy was a problem. This handy curtain means that the light from the bigger one's phone / laptop / whatever gadget he's playing on doesn't disturb the pre-tween. It also acts as the teen's "safe" zone, and helps with his sensory issues. The material is NOT black-out material and is thin but it does what it needs to do.
