Worked right away with coconut water, the smallish brown grains became big white ones.I’ve tried different things. The worst results have been using sugar & tap water in room temperature, which can be hot during summer in California: it seemed to disintegrate the grains, and the drink tasted quite aciditic to me, almost like vinegar.Now I cling to this recipe: grains + coconut water in a spared glass bottle of juice (a bit less than one quart), in the fridge. I get a really tasty and fine drink, that I put after 2 days or more into 2 smaller glass bottles to keep in the fridge and take away.It’s smooth it reminds me a bit of drinkable yogurt, without the milky and ultra-sugary side, which I prefer. I can get a bit fizzy after a while, which is refreshing.Adding coconut milk for a second fermentation (from the obtained fermented water, without the grains, for a few days) also gives great results for tasty and light vegan milk kefir.As for lifestyle, not only it tastes good, it is also noticeably beneficial for the digestive system with a regular intake.Grains grow fast, I quickly gave away some for friends to try and discover water kefir, as I don’t need more. I then strain the grains out and put the liquid in one of those tall bottles with a rubber seal and add another 1)4 cup of raw sugar 8 dried cherries and 2 drops of anise essential oil. It sits on my counter another 2-3 days until I see little bubbles at the top and all of the fruit is floating. I then refrigerate . When you open the cap it sounds like champagne and you will need glasses handy- it bubbles up and out. We throw out/compost the cherries because they have given all their flavor to the soda and are no longer palatable. It is so refreshing and nice to know you're not taking in some toxic dye filled GMO sweetened, fake flavored poison!!!Our family loves it. My grains are continuing to double, triple, quadruple! I pass them out to friends who sample our homemade soda. I am currently running 8 quarts! These are Excellent grains, I've actually tried several others and didn't do so well. I believe the success really comes from her directions though, as well as quality grains. I do change out my "pinch" like she describes. I've tried both Poseymom's water kefir grains and dairy kefir grains previously and was extremely happy with both. Poseymom takes pride in their grains and you can tell right off the bat how well they are cared for by the condition they're in when they arrive and how easily they perk up when you feed them. In fact, my previous grains were super busy so I'm excited to see what happens here!They arrived, packed in a tiny box and double bagged, one day early (thanks, Poseymom!!). Grains were dark and moist and I could tell they were VERY hungry from how strongly they smelled. They were in excellent condition. I think I got around 1/3c, too... Score!!I got them in sugar water right away, threw in a couple of raisins like the website suggested and let them rest in that for 24hrs. They're already perking up, a couple grains floating (see the pic - they're already strong enough to float raisins!) They're on their second feeding now but I think next feeding I'll add molasses or brown sugar instead. I haven't tasted any kefir from these grains yet, but a few years ago I had some from Poseymom and the kefir they made was SO good- very effervescent and... Kefir-y? Don't know how else to describe it, but it's really good.Homemade kefir tastes nothing like the stuff you get in the stores. You can customize it to your preferences, and it literally pays for itself after two batches: 2 quarts = 64ozΓ·16oz=4 bottles of store bought kefir, which runs an average of about $3.50 per bottle here near Seattle) after three batches.I'm only reviewing the price and condition right now because I just got them.
