The soft steel face and pilot hole allow drilling, boring, or stepping out to the exact size needed. The collet has external right-hand 1.988” x 20 threads for connecting to the draw bar, and the threads are heat treated for long life. This 3J step chuck does not require a closer, but because the closing angle is not large, centrifugal force will severely reduce gripping force as the rotational speed increases.
