You DO need to connect the molex connector for it to work. Its poorly made and caused all kinds of issues. Main problem is that it causes my sound to be horribly distorted. But it does make the connection which why Ill at least give it one star. Not the product to buy if your using a sound card. I popped the capture card into the slot on this card, then put them into an available pcie slot in that server. The OS detected the capture card right away, just like it was plugged directly into a pci slot.
