It has a clear bottom piece that you put batteries (not included) into and then screw the piece back on. It seems like it could be pretty easy to break, but we have it up on a shelf and use it as a novelty toy. It is pretty easy to accidentally turn on (bump the shelf and it turns on). There IS a switch on the bottom to turn on and off if it gets annoying or to only have it turned on for certain things. Since it can get difficult to tap through the levels of lights and get it to turn off this could be a good feature! The light on it has 3 levels, but there is not a lot of difference between the 2nd and 3rd levels. I can see a clear difference between the 1st light level and the 2nd one, though. I know that some people probably feel like for the high price of this type of item that it should be better, but since it is such a popular game I highly doubt that anything like this will be as cheap as we want. I think it would be a good gift for an older Minecraft fan (probably not younger kids). I had to wait a while for mine but I'm glad I got it in the long run. It's fun to have around the house!
