## Description

Product description Powerful USB 3.2 Gen 2 Performance - 2x the Performance as USB 3.0 and USB 3.1 Gen 1 Connections The Sonnet Allegro Pro Type A USB 3.2 PCIe Key Features Four SuperSpeed USB-A 10Gbps Ports —Adds four USB-A 10Gbps ports to your Mac Pro, Windows PC, or Linux computer with PCIe slots; or Thunderbolt to PCIe card expansion system Powerful Performance with Dual USB 3.2 Gen 2 Controllers —Support data transfers at up to twice as fast as USB 3.0 and USB 3.1 Gen 1, and boost data transfer speeds between connected drives Powered Ports —Supports USB bus-powered SSD, SSD RAID, and hard drive devices with up to 7.5W power per port Supports Charge & Sync —Supports USB 3.0 charging port handshake, and will simultaneously sync and charge iPads and other devices that support USB 3.0 charging at 1.5A per device Protected Power Delivery —Independent power regulation isolates each port to prevent cross-coupled power glitches that may cause accidental disconnects; resettable device overcurrent fuses protect the card and computer, and may be reset by a simple shutdown Add USB 3.2 Gen 2 to Thunderbolt Expansion Systems —Add four SuperSpeed USB-A 10Gbps ports to Thunderbolt to PCIe card expansion systems Easy Installation —Quick and easy user installation into any available PCIe slot Broad USB Device Support & Compatibility —Supports storage, hubs, and other USB-IF compliant USB devices Two Gen 2 Controllers, Four USB-A Ports Featuring two 10Gbps USB 3.1 Gen 2 controllers and four USB-A ports, the Allegro Pro USB 3.1 PCIe card supports the fastest USB drives available, yet provides the most common connection type for peripheral devices. Independent Power Regulation for Each Port & Resettable Fuses Ordinary USB-A cards can provide poor power regulation through their ports. The Allegro Pro card protects each port from power glitches on adjacent ports—such as when a hard drive spins up after connection—preventing auto-disconnects of already-connected drives. Unlike ordinary USB-A cards, the Allegro Pro features a resettable fuse on each port to protect the card and your computer should a cable or peripheral fail. Resetting a tripped fuse is simple— just shut down and restart your computer. Perfect for the Extra Slot in Your Multi-Slot Thunderbolt System Have a multi-slot Thunderbolt 2 or Thunderbolt 3 to PCIe card expansion system with an open slot? Installing an Allegro Pro Type-A USB 3.2 PCIe card is an excellent way to inexpensively add four SuperSpeed USB-A 10Gbs ports to your computer. Optimized for Thunderbolt Got a Thunderbolt connection, but no PCIe slot? The Allegro Pro USB 3.1 PCIe card is ideal for use in Sonnet’s Thunderbolt 2 and Thunderbolt 3 to PCIe card expansion systems, including Echo Express and xMac desktop and rackmount chassis. Now you can add four SuperSpeed+ USB-A ports to your computer without expansion card slots.

Review: Great value for the increase in performance - The card was easy to install. Performance measurements are well beyond my expectations. Brought new life into the Mac Tower for increasing data rates to/from my USB devices. I also installed a 3.0 hub that allows me to install multiple USB drives on the first port of the card. On the second port I connected a 3.1 RAID (4 drive system) from OWC which runs independently form the first port. This allows maximum speed from two independent ports on the card. Highly recommend the addition of this card for increasing the usefulness of portable USB drives and backup systems!
Review: NO! on MacPro 4,1 - Yes! on MacPro 5,1 - I got this to use on my 2009 Mac Pro 4,1 running Yosemite. I purchased a mediasonic USB 3n1 Gen2 external enclosure and wanted the best speed. I already own several mediasonic USB 3.0 enclosures. I have been using a FirmTek 4 port USB 3.0 PCIe card with these externals for several years without issues. After installing this, I connected 3 mediasonic 3.0 and one 3.1 enclosures. I immediately had issues. All the drives kept unmounting and giving me errors. Some would read as connected but wouldn't mount. Some would unmount while writing to the drive, which is not good for data! Sadly I uninstalled it and went back to my FirmTek. Fast forward a month. After heavy research, I FINALLY gave in and updated my firmware to 5,1 and OS to High Sierra. After this I decided to try the card again. I reconnected everything the same way as before and voila! Worked perfectly! No issues at all! The speeds are fast, but limited by my processor but better then b4. So far it's been a week of heavy use transferring close to 100 yes 100TB of video and photos across drives. So far no disconnects. I have since purchased a 4x Sonnet USB-C card which I now have the mediasonic 3.1 connected too. All working flawlessly now. Hopefully I am ready for another few years before needing another major upgrade!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does sonnet have a history of updating drivers for these cards when MacOS updates? I bought 2 other cards and drivers were never updated for new OS.**
A: No drivers are needed in current versions. The drivers are part of the OS.

**Q: Is anyone using this with the mac built in bluetooth without interference in El Capitan? Other cards interfere with built in bluetooth. Mac 5.1**
A: Using this card with 10.11.6 on a MacPro 5,1, and there's a bit of interference on my bluetooth mouse when I write a lot of data to my external HDs through this card. I tried two different PCI-e slots, and I'm still having problems with my mouse disconnecting, and jumping after installing the card.

**Q: Does this come with the 5 year manufacturer's warranty?**
A: UPDATE: I e-mailed Sonnet Jan. 24, 2017, at 1:30 am PST about this issue. Alexander wrote back and said that the Pro version definitely has a 5-year warranty, and he asked his web team to fix their website to include it on their 5-year warranty page. That was awesome!---------------------According to their website (Tech Specs tab): http://www.sonnettech.com/product/allegroprousb3pcie.html it has a 5-year warranty on the Pro version.

**Q: Are there any usb 3.2 devices on the market than can connect by a usb type a cable? i thought that type a was limited to usb 2.**
A: Type A cable will support 10Gb USB 3.2 connection. The cable must be rated at 10Gb.

All the drivers work and there is no issue at all. Great to access storage, but doesn't seem to grant access to using my controller.
