## Description

Sooraj R. Barjatya is an Indian Hindi film director. His films are produced under the Rajshri Productions banner which was first founded in 1947 by his late grandfather Tarachand Barjatya. As a director he is most known for his early hits, Maine Pyar Kiya (1989) and Hum Aapke Hain Kaun (1994). He was born in Mumbai. He made his directorial debut with Maine Pyar Kiya (1989) starring Salman Khan which was a huge box office hit and launched both his and Salman's careers. He teamed up with Salman again for Hum Aapke Hain Kaun (1994) which became one of the highest all-time blockbusters and Hum Saath-Saath Hain: We Stand United (1999) which was a huge hit as well. His fourth film, Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon starring Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor, and Abhishek Bachchan, was the first film directed by him to fail at the box office. He bounced back with his latest film Vivah (2006). Pooja (Rao) is an orphan, having come into her uncle Krishna Kant's (Alok Nath) household after her parents' death. He considers her a ""gift"", speaking of his aim in life being to nurture this daughter and to marry her off. Pooja lives with her Chacha(uncle) and Chachi (Seema Biswas) and their daughter Choti (Anjali Prakash). The aunt doesn't love Pooja much, because Pooja is prettier than Choti. However the loving Chacha arranges a match for Pooja with the son of a wealthy, industrialist family from Delhi. Where Prem (Shahid Kapoor) is the magnanimous bride-groom, who decides that he will spend a month of each year at his wife's parents' home, well-brought up Pooja is the perfect shudh Hindi speaking addition to the clan. The marriage day draws closer, but a fire in Krishna Kant's house will put Pooja and Prem's well-behaved love to the test. Shahid Kapoor was born in Mumbai, on 25th February 1981 to actors Pankaj Kapoor and Neelima Azeem, who divorced when he was three years old. His father married the actress Supriya Pathak. Review: I Don't Usually Watch Love Stories But... - New to Indian films, I chose this movie because Shahid Kapoor was in a starring role. I don't like romantic movies but after seeing him as Ratan Singh in Padmaavat, I had to know what his modern acting skills were like. I must say, this movie was the sweetest movie I have ever seen. I am so unlike the female lead character and although it is fiction, it was nice to see a story of how they fell in love WITHOUT there being a human antagonist in the story to keep them apart. The familial love was refreshing to see too, I don't know if families or even people like this truly exist, but the two families wanted the lovebirds to succeed in every way possible. I just can't say that I left this movie feeling lighthearted and refreshed enough! Yes, it is a long watch, but it is important to the story! The songs in this movie definitely had me wishing I could sing in Hindi. If you want to feel good after watching a movie, this one is it!!!
Review: Beautiful, nuanced acting - This story shows the transformation of a young and innocent fellow into strong and passionate man. The catalyst for change is his arranged marriage to a lovely girl named Poonum. Her character remains the same--sweet and endearing. Shahid Kapoor's acting was just about perfect second by second. He showed the same talent and sensitivity in "Jab We Met." Every actor in "Vivah" was outstanding, except the mother/aunt, Rama, who was restricted by playing a stock character. Aggravating was how cheesy some of the scenery and soundtrack became once the action moved to the hospital. The cinematographer also took some cheap tricks, with staggered shots. The doctor's office and the signage in the hospital looked like a high-school shop-class project. The background music sounded as if the number of musicians had been reduced to only three, one being a snare drum. Did the producers run out of money? Anyway, I did love this DVD. The important aspects were done perfectly.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ My Daughter really enjoys this movie!

(She's writing this review.) The roof top scene and song was sooo sad, as it was the main protagonists last day together before they head back home! Just seeing them all innocent, FINALLY talking to each other was bittersweet. And because of this, I. was. ab.so.lut.ely BALLING! Lastly, it's such a shame that self-sacrifice is the wake up call to some people to treat others nicely. Love this movie!
