Where has the wisdom gone? Why the devolution?

Laconics of Cult. What does it take for all to see through the superstitious priestcraft beguiling them with their hokey mythological ramblings, keeping the people in a state of abject ignorance?LACON'ICAL, adjective [Latin laconicus, from Laconia or Lacomes, the Spartans.] 1. Short; brief; pithy; sententious; expressing much in few words, after the manner of the Spartans; as a laconic phrase. --Webster's 1828 DictionaryCULT, n. A religion or religious sect generally considered to be extremist or false, with its followers often living in an unconventional manner under the guidance of an authoritarian, charismatic leader. --wordnik“Deism critiques fundamentalism for espousing belief in one transcendent (heavenly) spiritual Deity while in reality it is a religion of text worship. This is the case not just for Christian fundamentalism. Fundamentalist sects of the major religions have their own root and beliefs, but each venerates a divine text, be it book (Bible, Koran, Torah, Sutras…), or prophet (Jesus, Mohammad, Moses, Buddha…) or leader (Paul, pope, mullah, rabbi, Dali Lama…) embodied in writings, as its ultimate source of truth. Worship of a divinely inspired infallible text— a text that incarnates the divine Word— is what makes a sect radically fundamentalist.” —Beth Houston, Born-Again Deist

    Veddy interesting!

I wasn't sure what to expect from this book but I like older text because it gives new insight into current happenings. What struck me the most about this book was the language used by the author. It was so much more learned and erudite than most dumbed down works of today. People back then, over 100 years ago, were infinitely more educated versus the indoctrination they receive today. He also used more than a smattering of Latin phrases which was fine for me given my foreign language background in Spanish. What I enjoyed most was that, while I mostly disagreed with his position, I found that he argued it brilliantly! I actually enjoyed the cognitive dissonance due to his intellectual abilities. I wouldn't recommend it for pleasure reading, but would recommend it for people who like their minds and/or long-standing beliefs challenged.

FASCINATING book! What a gem. Makes the brain think!

Where do I start? This book is an interesting one for sure! It's bold, blunt, and full of religious histories that actually check out in research. The concept of "The Cult of The Immortal Human" is intriguing in how the basics of it comes down to basic human respect.Mr. Lockwood is a fascinating person.... his ideas are rather fresh for the timeline he lived in.Very interesting indeed.I provided a few random pics to give an idea of the contents.
