There is a soft plastic cover surrounding the digital meter and a hard plastic cover over the handle. **Q: Is this nozzle auto shutoff?** A: No, it is not Auto Shutoff. **Q: I would also like to know if its auto shutoff and if its rated for gasoline** A: It is rated for common fuels such as gas or diesel, however it is NOT Auto Shutoff.That is the only fault that I have with the nozzle. **Q: what is inlet diameter is it 1 or 1 1/2 inches** A: 1 inch.... very happy with mine. I had to recalibrate it because I run 100 percent biodiesel through it. I like it only after disassembling the entire nozzle assembly to remove manufacturing burrs from all the metal parts. Cast parts still had casting flash and cut parts has saw burrs. Metal flakes and burrs we flowing through the nozzle with the fuel. Disassemble, part finishing, and re-assemble then final flushing took a few hours. If you have the ability, know-how and time to waste, go ahead and buy this nozzle. If you don't mind metal trash in your fuel, go ahead and use it as is.
