Review: This stuff is the TRUTH - Don't ask what made me even think of trying camel fat, but I am so glad I did. I wanted to find something natural to use. My mother and the grands used tallow back in the day but that is much too heavy for my skin. PROS: -- The smell is (very surprisingly) very faint. It's not a bad smell & reminds me of "fried meat grease". The faint scent fades quickly if used on the skin. -- It is an amazing skin balm. I have used it head to toe - on my scalp as a moisturizer; on the ends of my hair to seal them; on my lips as a balm, on my face under my sunscreen; on my body as a "lotion" after showering; and on my feet. I have mild to bad psoriasis on my feet so they are always dry, even when I don't have an outbreak happening. This made my feet feel so good, I wasn't embarrassed by them. -- Using this on my face was the best. It's not greasy and feels a lot like natural sebum, IMO. It absorbed really well and, if I wanted, I would be able to wear makeup over it with no problems. -- When I used this on my baked fish (flounder and salmon) and white rice, it gave the food such a different depth of flavor - I want to say it brought out the savoryness (?). It seemed to give a boost to the other seasonings (a little Celtic sea salt, Old Bay, and garlic powder). I will probably always use this on my fish now. -- The jar was well-sealed (I needed a jar grip to remove it!) and arrived with plastic around the lid. -- The best-by date is sometime in 2025 (I smudged it by putting on a label!). I learned that it will last longer if kept well-sealed and cold. I put a bit in small jars for the fridge and I sealed the rest up and it's in the freezer until I need it. The fat has a texture very similar to virgin coconut oil - mostly - in that it will melt a bit in warm temps and firm up again in cold. However, there are tiny grainy bits in it. Those melted when cooked but I had to wipe them away when using the fat on my skin, but I think they might also melt away. This is a bit pricey but some things are worth it. If it stays in this price range, I will always have some around & I subscribed because I will be using so much of it now that I like using it for cooking *and* on my skin. I'm not sure about this part because I found it online somewhere random but: "Australian-sourced camel hump fat is known for its quality, as the camels in Australia are often free-range and well-cared for. " Hopefully! I would do a patch test. Most of us know if we have a beef or other animal product allergy but... LOL
Review: Nice and pleasant tasting fat. - So far, I have just eaten it with a spoon. I didn't think it had any bad smell at all. It reminded me of beef tallow. It is maybe just a little softer than tallow. I think it was nearly tasteless with just a little bit of taste like beef tallow.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Do you wait for the “desert” camels to die of natural causes before their bodies are rendered?**
A: That would be kind of like eating roadkill or waiting for fish to die before deciding it’s ok to eat them. Australia is renowned for having invasive species take over like rabbits and cane toads. If anyone found a use for the toads it would be amazing.

**Q: Does it need to be refrigerated after opening?**
A: I would put it in the refrigerater to keep it fresher. It doesnt say on the pkg to refrigerate it but it smelled and tasted stale w/o it.

**Q: Does the Camel need to be killed to attain the fat? What happens to the rest of the camel?**
A: Wild camels are being killed anyway since they have overpopulated the Australian desert. After the last big wildfire there the Australian government ordered to kill more than 10,000 camels because they were drinking so much water from the desert's limited supply.

**Q: can you freeze this**
A: The smoke point of camel's fat is about 400degrees F.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great for Face & Lips – A New Winter Skincare Staple
*by R***L on January 24, 2026*

I’ve used camel milk in soap and lotion making before, so when I saw camel hump fat, I was definitely intrigued. Overall, I really like this product. The price is reasonable, shipping was fast, and it arrived well packaged. The scent is mild—kind of like butter—and the texture is semi-hard. It’s a bit tough to scoop out by hand (a sturdy spoon helps), but it melts easily with body heat. So far, I’ve only used it on my face and lips. Once melted, it applies smoothly and doesn’t feel greasy or heavy. I use it as a sealant rather than a standalone moisturizer, and it works great. My skin feels moisturized without looking shiny or globby. Bonus: it’s fantastic on lips—way better than half the lip balms I’ve wasted money on. I can already tell this will be a staple in my winter skincare routine.
