The PoolMate2 features all the patented lap-counting technology of our existing models with the addition of an open water mode to track swims in lakes, the sea or rivers. With double the battery life, a crystal glass face, larger clearer display and chrono mode for other activities it's a great watch. The black model comes with reverse display (white characters on black display) and does not have a back light. Grey, blue and purple models have standard display and back light. NOTE:If you have inaccuracies with lap counting first check the watch is set to the correct hand that you are wearing it on. Use the up button to change the value then hold the start button for a couple of seconds to exit). If the watch counts less laps than it should then try gliding for a little longer at the start of a lap. This will give the watch a little longer to register the change of lap. I hardly used it but when I finally went back to swimovate they said I was just outside the 12 month warranty (so tough luck! - my edit). I've not tried it in open water. It's comfortable to wear, even though the plastic strap is stiff. Scrolling through the modes and menus does not seem intuitive, but OK once you get used to it. I'm a bit disappointed that the date is so prominent of the main screen, even though this is clearly shown in the pictures. I would have preferred it to be shown more discretely and the time to take up the major part of the display.
