What does the screen on top of the calvulator do?

That is the solar panel which converts solar radiation (light) to electricity, to power the calculator. There are two almost identical models, this one with the solar panel and another which runs on batteries. Note you only get a basic instruction booklet, the full manual has to be downloaded from the casio web site.

Where is the “SD” button on the new version of this calculator?

Use the key to enter the SD Mode when you want to perform statistical calculations using standard deviation. In the SD Mode and REG Mode, the key operates as the key. Always start data input with (CLR) (Scl) to clear statistical memory.
